1. (Incomplete) Video is up on U2t, multicam is planned, 2 or 3 other audio sources to be shared.

  2. Excellent news.

Did you go in the end?

  3. I wished, would have been cool to see the 1st and the last gig. The missus didn't agree on cancelling holidays nd spending an insane amount on a flight to Cardiff, though.

    Ah, fair point

I have the same issue explaining why we really need to go to Buenos Aires on holiday next year...
  5. So then:-

    Stadium

Queuing was a breeze. Very well organised and very civilized crowd. Just missed out on Gate 6 (pit) ntry, but near front of Gate 7 entry.

One negative - only one merchandise tent with a queue virtually back across the Severn meant no T-shirt etc for me (or the mate I was meant to be getting one for). No chance once in gig as preserving spot

Few glances at my T-shirt but no recognition that I'm aware of!

    Warm-Up/Standing

The Hours were bloody brilliant. Will investigate their CD. Glasvegas were truly shocking, with a robotic drummer who knew three separate drumming rhythms only. Mumbled lyrics, far too much reliance on profanity. Poor. Rightly booed when Bono thanked them later during the gig.

Excellent position 4 people deep from front rail by catwalk, approx halfway between tip and Claw leg on Edges side. Fantastic view of band, screen and light shows. Amazing to see the crowd through the other side, especially during warm-up.

Great people to stand around with, very friendly. Beachballs being lobbed, a couple of excellent Mexican waves.
GA was packed with no gap at the back, and by the time show started, so were the seats. No more than a couple hundred empty. Must have sold a lot of last minute tickets. Biggest ever Cardiff audience, beating Take That earlier this year.

Smoking on pitch - boo. So glad roof was open.

    Show

The Claw is amazing. No picture can prepare you for it. Mind-blowing.
Sound was fantastic to my ears. Deep punching bass shaking the rib-cage and amazingly clear guitar + Bono.
Bono's voice had the full husky. By his own admission hungover from the wedding the day previously. Added to the emotive brilliance in my opinion. My mate is classically trained and a real pedant (very critical last tour for example). Said he was amazed at the voice and he hit every note he attempted. In tune too. (He did duck out of a few falsetto's, mainly in TUF and at the end of One + WOWY).
Larry, Edge and Adam were flawless as far as I could tell and with the massive grins loving every second of it.

(Bar one very amusing miss from Edge hitting the guitar solo in Breathe - he was about a second late hitting his pedal for the solo. Adam came over and had a laugh with him whilst he nailed it.)

Crowd - amazing. Seemed to floor the presumably hard to impress Bono. He was really feeling it and the performance fueled the crowd and vice-versa. Soooo loud.

    Lowlights
TUF didn't grab me as a song as much as I had expected. It was probably Bono's weakest song of the night. It was still great, but not up to the standard to the entire rest of the show. Lighting during it was something else of course.

    Glasvegas

    Smokers

    Highlights

    Really far too many.

Bono reading out a sign from someone in the pit saying it was their ninth show and they would go to rehab after ( *insert own rude comments here* ). Bono almost visibly blushed, said 'I'm a married man; I just saw my wife get into bed at 7.30 this morning. Don't know why I'm sharing that with you, but there you are'. Fabulous

Bono removing his IEM's and soaking it in during ISHFWILF and Edge's guitar in UC (even prompting Larry to do the same, despite the fact he was drumming at the time).

Stay and Bad as slightly unexpected and very welcome first-timers for me.

Falsetto bit at end of Mysterious Ways a la ZooTV has rejuvenated the song for me and I haven't heard it since that tour (not listened to any from this tour so not sure if it is a regular this time around).

Do You Hear Us in One. OMG. Missed that so much last tour.

Walk On into a full-length kick ass Streets intro, with red screen.

All 4 NLOTH songs at the beginning, especially title track and the running out over the bridges for the first time during Boots. Crazy was also fab (even if Bono missed it a couple of times - I didn't notice that and it just propelled us to sing even louder). Very impressed at how polished these tracks now are.

WOWY was very good. Lots of emotion (he poured it into every song really). No Shine Like, but still very good and extra Edge guitar, whilst not a solo, was still welcome.

Ultraviolet. I knew it was there but I just wasn't prepared for the jaw-droppingly amazing version I heard. Great vocal, amazing guitar and the crowd seemed to know it too, which helped.

    Overall

I had a truly great night which exceeded all my (very high) expectations. I didn't miss not getting a tour debut as our setlist is unique, which is nice. Bono told us that Edge requested to finish in Cardiff (he had a Welsh T-shirt on which got a massive cheer at the end ) and they and the crowd did the European leg proud.

For me, clearly, the best gig of the tour, but your own often will be. It will be interesting how the boot brings it across and where it will stand in the pantheon of this leg.

but i preferred wembley 1 for a few reasons - the main one being that i was down on the pitch at wembley and seated at cardiff.. the two just dont compare but at least i got to see it from a different angle. the atmosphere in the stands just didn't feel right when certain people wouldn't even get on their feet for streets!!! also because of where i was seated the sound really wasn't too good. i was amazed when i read reviews of wembley on here and people were saying the sound was terrible - for me wembley was prob the best sounding outdoor gig i've heard. i guess i found out yesterday that where you stand can make a massive difference. .....

I almost finished the same way in Zagreb, wanting to go on seats the 2nd night to have "different perspective", luckily I have changed my mind and set myself on the pitch first row
Although, Zagreb has no roof, it was very dark (no lights) and I was told the sound was excellent from almost every angle, still it is not the same athmosphere...

    Is Cardiff bootleg good?

Great to hear Dan, glad you had a good time! Damn you lot for getting Bad, but that's what bootlegs are for I hear you re. the smoking, got a bit irritating during Wembley 1 but losing m'self in the show more than compensated. And I managed to get a tour shirt for each show so I have a souvenir each (aswell as the tix), as it were, but I'm gonna probably wear them 24/7! Besides, I think you should be able to order from the website eventually if they have surplus?

EDIT (1) - re. Glasvegas; too much reliance on profanity?

    EDIT (2) -
I hope your little diversions onto here don't result in poor old Dolly getting a jab in the wrong area!?

I would have quite liked Elevation but do feel we had a smoking setlist.

All this balls by miserable bastards about his voice. He nailed everything he tried, although I admit he didn't try a few things. I swear the hangover/tiredness was part of the emotion he brought to it. It was also his 20th Wedding Anniversary for fecks sake!!

Plan on raiding U2.com at some point.

Glasvegas have far too much swearing in most of their songs. I'm a man of the world and use a dabble of it myself, but this was too much. One song seemed to be called 'Fuck You'. Charming.

    Fuck you yourselves....

haha...lol.... nope. Must go change the inpatients nappies now though.... (EDIT - oops, wrong job )

Well, I got Elevation, you got Bad, we're even (we shan't dwell on the acoustic songs, I've fallen in love with Stuck In A Moment... again over the last couple of weeks) and yeah, I think Bono's voice is better than it's been in years. You could be cynical and say that's not difficult, but for someone closing on 50 to be singing quite challenging material and do it well 2-3 nights a week isn't too shabby in my books.

I was just checking the Glasvegas stuff on YT - there was only a 20 sec clip from Cardiff, for better or worse had to look at the Croke stuff - and my conclusion is that it's amazing what one can do with studio technology, mixing etc. They don't sound particularly great which I think is a shame 'cause some of their studio stuff sounds promising. The drummer could definitely do with the ability to use a full kit - Larry's bongo-ing on I'll Go Crazy looks more demanding lol...mixing sounded pretty shoddy too. Hmm. Not the best warm-up you guys could have done with.
