1. Hi,

I'm hitting my first U2 show next month, and wanted to ask the veterans for any and all advice on having the best time possible. I know there's only so much you can do past getting there early, but I'd love to hear any tips you guys have, for the 360 tour, or U2 concerts in general.

    Thanks very much!

    PS: I've got GA tickets.
  2. Yeah, I could use some GA tips as well-what time to show up, best view, etc.
  3. Its all about personal preference but for your first gig, I think you have to get into the inner circle.....this means start queing up before 12 to get a decent spot. I queued up at Dublin 1 from 2pm and still got into the inner circle....

My advice is take a few drinks for the queue and meet those around you!
  4. I dunno about necessarily getting inside the circle/pit - Wembley 1 was my first gig and I had a fantastic time outside the walkway, 10-15 feet from the front Claw leg on Edge's side? I was pretty near. I got in the queue c. 10 to 5 in the afternoon for various reasons, mainly not realsiign where the queue actually was and how it worked lol, but yeah I could have got in much earlier and nearer with a bit of hindsight, but I still got a great view where I was. My main tip would simply be to let yourself go and get into the spirit of things - sing every song like it's your last, if you're not hoarse by the end of the gig you've not done enough
  5. Don't take too many photos. Seriously. You'll miss half the show trying to get your camera settings right. There will be tons of photos and videos on the internet, just enjoy the music.

Unless you use a camera phone like I did and didn't pay too much attention to what you were taking

Especially if its your first gig.....you will never forget the moment you see Larry for the first time calmly walk on and start banging those drums! Make sure you are not watching it on the mini screen on ur cam!
  8. I'll definitely not bring a camera.
  9. hey there ... just back from my 14th 360 concert ...
managed to get to my favourite spot ... again

got to the catwalk, right in the middle, at the rail outside of the pit ... NOT inside ....
if you go to the rail there, for better sound sake, and the fact that you get to see the boys go past you close up .. there you might get tall people in front of you last minute ...
you want to get at the front of the catwalk,
for even better sound stay 5 to 10 meters back, then you get a proper mix from the bassbins that are standing underneath the catwalk, AND you get the sound from the hanging speakers ... these do NOT and I repeat, they DO NOT reach the inner circle !!!

If you are in there, the chances are you are listening to a 3.5 star bootleg depending on the singing quality of the ones around you ...

if you get a few rows back from the rail, PRAY that there is NO one with cameraphones in front of you , their actions do nottin but spoil the fun for the ones behind them, the screens on those things should automatically switch off above 1 meter 60 high

you can read the separate topics about the concerts here too, to see how things at and around the venue progress ..or on u2.com cause there it tells you for most cities what time and when the first ones lined up etc .. dub 3 for example around 14.00pm there were only 1100 people wristbanded people there, still 1300 left for those arriving from then on ... gates opened at 5 ?

In cardiff I was there at 06.00am but lucky on entering ... wembley2 and dub2 I slept the night there ..
you will see people tend to wanna spend the night, or most of the day, in order to try and minimise the chance factor .. and be among the first 500 that get in ... but if the venue or security fucks things up, like dublin not keeping to their promise that the wristbanded people for the pit were not gonna be let out out of the pit, so the people in line for the pitch (field) came on the field, only to see the rail full of people that had gone out of the pit cause when it fills up its hard to get to a good spot in the middle ... so fuck that two way system ... cause the next day I was in front again, and they did stick to the promise this time, keeping me from where I wanted to go ... outside of the pit, , nice (south gate opened way before north gate, and north was much further from the field .. and they were fussy about your water supplies, on a day with 35 degrees full sun, no shade .... wembley, they made me go into the pit ... lining security up all the way to the pit .. there I had to point to the other side of teh field, where they WERE letting people go onto the field .. then pull myself loose and run to the rail ...
, amsterdam . did not care that the nr's 100 and further, did not have any gates set at their sides, preventing people to join the line when that dreaded momomnt comes that the line crumples up, and gets closer to each other ... if that means running ... you run ... and be prepared, stop playing cards around 14.00 or so ... get you stuff sort of ready ..... that moment the crowd got up and simply everyone moved to the front of the line , at that same time ... loads of people sitting at the snackbar or tshirt stand, quickly jumped the line ...

if all that shit happens, then you have to swallow a bitter pill, but they seem to be digestable ...

also if you simpy stand up and speak out , and work together, you can become very strong, making the biggest arseholes that jump the line feel so bad, they go away themselves ... I even stared a few away .... no words necessary I tell you !!! But if need be, speak out ! it does not mean a fight will start, true colours will shine, for better or for worse .. speaking out if you ARE right is NEVER wrong !

then again ... in the pit is something else !!! being part of a much tighter and active organism that consists of 2400 to 3400 people (amsterdam was packed overcapacity ...) and still loud sound, but more so, the upcloseness of the band .... most of the time ... more moments of possible interaction with them etc etc ...

and all the way at teh back, around the sound desk, you have great great sound, and mostly loads of space to dance and jump without getting in anyones face, or on anyones toes ... truylly go crazy !
    did that in nice
or in glasgow, I decided to go for space and sound again, from inside the pit, behind the stage ! loads of room, occasional moments where the boys go there .. but when they do .. edge and larry with i'll go crazy behind the stage you also see them come on stage and leave it again ... as they simply walk past you at one or two meters away ...

hard huh ? some of the people waiting in line also choose last minute , and some waste time going in, unprepared ... really, make sure you have pictured the map from the inside of the venue .. focus on where you want to go, and trip out over that massive claw that makes that giant stadium look tiny .. later ... really ...
i would say in europe, get there before 12 or even later got you in the pit it even got you close to the catwalk, close being 5 to 10 rows
minimise what you take in, it speeds up getting in ...
again,in line it can be tense, or nevrous times, but they are fun as hell , during the wait , Interact with your neighbours, become part of each others movie and dream out loud .!!!!

Ditto. Hundreds of other people will take pictures & videos.

And jump up and down during Streets, if that wasn't obvious enough.
