  1. There have been some rumors swirling around Chicago this weekend that the big outdoor Oprah taping on the plaza at 400 North Michigan on Tuesday will have U2 as a surprise guest. I was downtown in Chicago earlier today before I even heard the rumor and I must say, as I drove by the location from across the river on Wacker, my first thought was, wow that stage is REALLY big to just tape an outdoor talk show!. The stage is under a huge tent which appeared from my vantage point across the river to be about 40' - 50' feet high and had all kinds of other black high trusses containing light and sound rigs. I would say quite the overkill when you compare what the Today show or the like does in Rockefeller Center for a regular talk show with one musical guest ( Black Eyed Peas has been listed as the musical guest). After I did some research on the U2 site, it appears the 360 tour and staging left Wales GB on August 23/24th and the American leg starts in Chicago in five days. Oprah and Bono are good friends or at least are both media whores- sorry I had to add that. If the rumors are true it would make perfect sense that it is a secret as the City and the Chicago police would not allow them to announce in advance someone like U2 playing outdoors on a downtown street. I know that when Smashing Pumpkins tried to do a free show in downtown Chicago for their farewell tour the city said" thanks but no thanks,-"we could never control the situation". Plus if you think about how many U2 videos feature outdoor surprise appearances, I think it makes perfect sense, well we will all know in about 12 hours. Bono is no fool, if they pulled that off it would be carried on all the major networks tomorrow as a cool news item. we'll see .......
  2. I wrote on the Chicago topic that

    I get e-mails from a bunch of different radio stations (telling updates about people in concert...) and i got a text saying...

    "101.9 fm the mix, Eric and Kathy give away Oprah passes, $10 , 000 cash and a special U2 announcement."

    I'm intregued to what surprise this announcement will be, I'm thinking maybe they will be participating in Oprah's kick off show, if so ill have to ditch class... I'll keep you posted.



    I'll for sure be down there to check it out. Would be a treat if they did show up.
