Question for Montreal Residents

So I'm sure U2 will come back to North America next year, and I'm positive they'll make a stop at Montreal.

My question is, does the olympic stadium's roof retract? I'm not sure if they'll want to play an indoor stadium, I know they have a setup ready for an indoor stadium, but I'm just wondering if it opens, seeing as how the band's prefernece is open air concerts right now.

Anyone?

The stadium was designed by French architect Roger Taillibert to be a very elaborate facility featuring a retractable roof, which was to be opened and closed by a huge 175-metre (574 ft) tower – the tallest inclined structure in the world, and the sixth tallest building in Montreal. The design of the stadium is remarkably similar to the Australia Pavilion at Expo '70 in Osaka by Queensland University architect James MacCormick.[2]

i have helped take american architecture students to montreal over seven times and we make a point to tour the stadium and olympic park. it is my understanding that since the most recent renovation of the roof (in the last years of the montreal expos baseball team, before they became the washington nationals) the current teflon roof is in fact a PERMANENT tensile structure held in place by the tower. it originally intended to be a retractable kevlar roof, held in the "mouth" of the tower. but i was told by the tour guides that it never really worked as it was intended.

Hello everyone,

This is my first time in a forum, but I guess U2 deserves it:
1st - I am from Montréal.
2nd - I can confirm, the roof is not retractable anymore (altought I did work for a couple of years and it was an amazing mechanism to see in action - about 25 minutes to retract)

We have had so many problems with this piece of junk!!!

3rd - U2 will definatly come to Montréal and yes they could fit the claw easily in the Olympic stadium - The roof is about twice as high as a regular football stadium (like the Rogers in Toronto)

And finaly, I have had the pleasure of seeing the best band in the World in Toronto on September 16th 2009 and WOW! what a great show!
I have to admit, red zone tickets are worth it as we ended up right in front of the band in the circle (with access to our red zone).
