  1. Recorded at the Oakland Coliseum on May 9th 1977 this is Pink Floyd at the absolute peak of their live powers. This is considered a legendary show by Floyd fans for a number of reasons. First the quality of the band performance is almost perfect and unusually for this tour the crowd isn't going mental, letting off fireworks and trying to kill each other. Then there's the quality of this bootleg which sounds almost professionally recorded which for the era and considering the recording equipment available at the time is quite amazing! And finally at this show the band must have been having a good time because they come back for a THIRD encore of 'Careful With That Axe Eugene' a fan favourite that hadn't been played since 1972 and has never been played since.
    To some people (including myself) this is considered to be the last true Pink Floyd tour before Rick Wright was fired from the band and Roger Waters took complete control. The next tour (their final with Waters) of The Wall was more of a theatrical affair with numerous session musicians and when they eventually hit the road again ten years later in 1987 (without Waters) they were once again augmented with an extra drummer, keyboard player and at least one extra guitarist. Without Waters and with all these extra musicians this was no longer true Pink Floyd in many peoples eyes including my own.

    If you are a fan of mid to late 70's floyd then this is probably going to be the best thing you will ever hear..

    next i'll post the final date of the tour (montreal) sometime in the coming week - this is the show that inspired the writing of The Wall where Roger Waters finally lost it and spat in a fans face - it's a very interesting listen (for all the wrong reasons!)

  9. Amazing show indeed, a must have for any Pink Floyd fans. To me these performances are the definitive ones of both the entire Animals and Wish You Were Here albums, I listen to them more than the albums themselves.
