  2. Whats intressting here is that the people who praise his voice in the 80s beacuse of the screaming/straining thing make it sound like it is hard to sing like that.

    The thing is that he has no problem to sing like that today, just watch my 360 highlights clip on youtube. The thing is that 360 tour is the first tour ever when he use clean high notes, technique togheter with more raw screaming. Something 80/90s Bono only couls dream about. In the 80s alot of the screaming(wide awake in bad for an example) was because he wasnt able to hit the note clean.

    Bonos problem now isnt about hitting high notes, he does that better then ever. Íts his stamina, if he would work out more(running, swimming) he could eaisly hit more high notes each night. So instead of smoking, drinking wine and just talk he could work out more. We shouldnt forget that he has problem with his back, that makes it harder for him to sing. It effects you psychally and fysichally.
    This can be a real problem for him on the new leg that starts later this summer, his stamina might be worse now because of all resting because of his injury togheter that he still will feel pain.

  3. I agree completely. And I hate his pre Zoo voice for the reasons you mentioned.

    not having listened to enough U2 lately, and now listening too Zoo Sidney, I realise that I've missed his voice. I think Bono's voice has a kind of underlying beauty that simple noone else has, and it's almost always there even when his voice is bad. And of course the passion he sings with, I think his voice is the best at conveying emotions ever

    Which is why pretty much every single U2 cover really sounds horrible. It has nothign to do with whether or not the cover aritst can hit the notes, or whether or not the guitarist can sound like Edge or even do his own thing, it's that U2's songs are written FOR Bono's voice. No U2 song sounds right if he's not in there.

    I agree completely, I've only heard one good cover of a U2 song.

  9. technically he may be a better singer now in the way he uses his voice, come on though, it has lost so much power since the peak in late 80's to early 90's.

    In fact, my thought is more or less the opposite. He used to have a much more detailed low voice which he doesn't have right now... now it's all about his passion and voice strength/power (see Moment Of Surrender, for example), but I don't think he's better or has improved at all. He can't hit the high notes in Pride or Vertigo (which are difficult, I know, but...) anymore.

    PS. Well, to be honest he hasn't hit the high "feeeel" note in Vertigo ever
  11. I think it's obvious that his vocal range has decreased just a bit for this tour. However, his songs feel far more passionate, especially on the latest leg of the tour. The passion and raw emotion in his vocals now reminds me of the Elevation Tour, where the band really stripped everything back and reconnected with their roots as musicians.

    Of course, he's going to take the lower route in some songs as we have clearly seen (Vertigo, Pride, CoBL). But asking him to sing Lemon? The vocal range required of that song is so wide that I was amazed that he was even able to hit all the notes during the ZooTV Tour. But personally, I don't want them bringing Lemon on the tour. While I like the song because of it's oddities, Lemon is a poor representation of what the band is now. The band's performances are genuine, emotional, stripped to the core. Lemon is, at least the way I see it, a song that's all about putting up appearances. It has a very strong affiliation with Bono's MacPhisto persona, which was good at the time, but has no place in this tour.
  12. Personally I think his voice is in great shape. He's singing alot better than he was for most of the 80s. However I still think that 1987 to 1993 was his peak. Particularly in the 90s. He reached a point where he could cleanly hit high notes and still had alot of vocal power, which has unfortunately been lost to some extent due to smoking, drinking and damage he did to his voice by screaming in the early days.
