1. Do you know WHY did they begin with Beautiful Day and not with Elevation? It's the only Elevation gig not to feature Elevation as opener...
I think it was due to Bono's voice problems... Any accurate opinion/info up there?

They were planning to open with Elevation. They even soundchecked it that way on the day of the show. But they had rehearsed it opening with Beautiful Day the day prior. They supposedly could not make up their mind and a crew member (I believe Joe O.) made the call to use the Beautiful Day intro. Obviously they didnt feel it worked as it was the only time it was done. They defer to Joe O. or Willie when they cant decide on stuff like that sometimes. Happened a couple of times on Vertigo also.

Whats a shame is they rehearsed a full band Peace On Earth at rehearsal the prior day and soundcheck the day of extensively. Not sure why they decided to not play that version as I think it would have worked very well live in that form.

  3. mh I always concluded it was their way to cope with 9/11 ....as a kind of tribute to the Americans, saying "we got to go on in a way"

I had heard about Bono's voice proble, but as always you look really accurate and informed... Thanks, by the way!

One last thing, are the soundchecks of the days before widely available? Are they in U2T?
  5. I'm not aware of any recordings that are available of any of it.

Then, how do you know the songs which were soundchecked?

    Alright. Did't realize!

I'm going to send it to u2-vertigo-tour.com, so they add it into the info of the show.

Pimm's book doesnt talk about what intro they worked on the day of the show though, does it.

Nope. But it'll give you an idea on what was soundchecked.

Right, so I inferred that Elevation was worked on because the book says they checked Whats Going On and Peace On Earth??? OK

    Never said that.
LikeASong asked how to know what was soundchecked if there's no recording (and I guess he supposed you weren't there) - I mentioned where to get that information. Nothing more.
