    Just wanna say that I thought the concert was pretty good, we all know it wasn't their best but ya can't have everything and if they do a webcast again I'll still watch it

  12. It is amusing to me how brutal people are in their criticism. "Epic fail?" That's ridiculous. I'd love to know what sort of expectations they have when going to a rock concert. I mean, the band played at an excellent level, Bono was not perfect, but had his moments and as always entertaining. What else can you ask for from live performers? Do you want the performance to induce you to physically orgasm?

    This was my fifth U2 tour dating back to ZooTV, and I've learned that the band is only one half of the equation to a great concert. The crowd is the other. And LA crowds are just not that wild. That's true for sporting events, too.

    The highs: First of all, the sound quality was beyond spectacular. For a show and venue this size, I would have expected the worst. Instead, the clarity of sound was as if they were playing in my living room. 5 stars. Everyone talks about how great ZooTV was (and it was) but at Mile High, the sound absolutely sucked. This concert blew away any other I've been to for sound quality. More highs: The Edge simply never takes a night off. He was (as usual) precise and transcendent. Larry and Adam laid it down as consistently as ever. Bono's vocals on "the Unforgettable Fire" were so mature and rich that they really transformed the song. I've never heard that live, and was really pleased. Same for Ultraviolet. The stage/space station is a sight to behold in person. Indescribable. Pictures and video do NOT do it justice. And I would personally pay the ticket price just to see them perform "Until the End of the World" and nothing else. Best live song from the best live band . . . EVER. And last night was no exception.

    The lows: LA crowds are simply too detached, and when you put 100,000 of them together, it only makes it worse. Depending on where you sat, there were areas of the stadium that were really lively, but my section was dreadfully lame. Not from lack of effort on the band's part, though. No matter how brilliant the performers, a show that size and that heavily produced will lack for spontaneity and with few exceptions, it did. Some of the newer recordings have such odd ball lyrics and melodies, that unlike "old" U2 songs, Bono seemed to struggle with them and only "No Line" seemed to translate easily live. In fact, the only real surprise moment of the night was the totally re-made version of "Crazy Tonight" which I actually really enjoyed.

    Overall, there is no band that could pull off a show like this besides U2. Over 20 years, they have set the standard for rock concerts so high that they often get criticized if a tour isn't the most mind-blowing musical event in history. U2 concerts are always great, and this one as one of their biggest ever, was worth every penny. Like PopMart, when the band goes big, sometimes fans can't connect as well. But going big also means it is a gauranteed spectacle. Biggest, not necessarily best, but still an event not to be missed.
