    It sounds like a promising song the way it was described. It was also Jimmy Iovine's favourite song from the sessions and that it was a 'surging anthem'.

    Adam told Mojo that it would have made the album too long - but why not a bonus track then?


    A swelling soul-pop song, with bright synth sounds influenced by OMD and, Bono says, "early electronica." "You don't hear indie bands doing blue-eyed soul [like this]," he adds.


    It sounds good from descriptions and so far RS, Jimmy Iovine and Q are really the only ones who have heard it and made mention of it.

    The best indication they've given yet that it will be on the album was that they didn't put it on the Medium, Rare and Remastered bonus discs that were given out with U2 subscriptions. Next year's sleeper hit I'm predicting!

    I don't get why a song five years old and leaked in full would be the highlight. An EP version might be nice though.

    I mean recording right after the tour in the same place as the last concert makes lots of sense. Until you factor in the flight and performance in New York. And even then its not too far to go back until you realise U2 are lying all the way to Berlin for a concert.

    It just seems strange that they would fly all the way back to Vancouver when there are plenty of other recording studios in Europe that they could of used!


    Adam's bass tech confirmed that U2 is recording in Vancouver. it's not a matter of "if" anymore. the real question now is how long will they be recording for? and how much recording do they need to do before releasing the album?

    Whatever is needed to get a great album out... Hopefully the boys we'll deliver something by March/April or so. It also depends on whether they'll tour before the next North-American leg. If yes, then they're actually going to be quite busy... I'd be surprised if they'd toured again with the very same setlist next year. They'll probably try to get at least one good single out - the question will be whether they can still make it. No doubt they're the best live band by very, very far. But are they still capable of producing a great single, like Pride, One, WTSHNN, BD? Personally, I'm quite happy with Breathe, Magnificent, Moment of Surrender & co. I'd like more to see a new One Tree Hill.Red Hill Mining Town rather than a new Pride.

    Interesting times anyway!

  8. I hope you're right, but from what i read in that Rolling Stone interview it sounds to me like they have alot of stuff started and don't have much that is actually close to finished and ready to go...aside from Every Breaking Wave

Xmas might be a little early, considering they're still recording. though i guess they were still recording up to the end of December last year, and GOYB was released in January, so you never know. maybe EBW could see a single release by Xmas, but i still think that we're looking at March earliest for any single/album.
  10. That's a very good thing that they do an album after one year but I can see a lot of masquerade behind it. "The last album didn't bring money, so do an other album." Interesting, after HTDAAB there was four and a half year before they released NLOTH because Bomb was a success and Vertigo Tour has great acquisition. I hope Songs Of Ascent will be good and I love their music but I start to hate these guys - especially Bono and Paul McGuiness - because of their rapacious appetite.

    I don't feel they have a rapacious appetite. Simply because they don't have to.
    They're already "in".

    They've earned enough money, and started to do so 25 years ago. They can easily go on living their lives as they are used to by not releasing any more albums in the future.

    I guess it's just wanting to get that music out there, and the new album probably has another format and feel than NLOTH; otherwise they could've released NLOTH ans Songs of Ascent at once as a double pack.
    Enough fans out there to buy a costly double pack in the first place. Another reason may be that they want to keep offering new songs during their current tour: not because they're afraid that their shows might not be sold out (because they always do sell out until the last seat), they just like to play those new tracks, also to keep it interesting for themselves after playing all over the planet after such a long time.
    Nothing wrong with a quick release after NLOTH: it worked with Achtung Baby and Zooropa as well, so why not?

    Absolutely - I don't think there's any greed at all. They know they can still do great stuff, and they have quite a few things in the pipeline. Money really isn't a problem for U2! Christmas sounds a bit early; Bono is always enthousiastic, but other members are much more careful in making predictions. But let's see what happens - provided they come up with something supergood before next Summer
