  1. Im not sure if I would have been a U2 fan if I was born earlier. Im happy with what I get from the boys now, although I have to life with the fact that most of my life will be without any new releases. Ok, that sounded pretty stupid

    Not as good as they used to be? Well I think the NLOTH album is their best since Zooropa. And the Tour is the best since Popmart, however Popmart had more balls.


  2. Oh yeah, Popmart... I love those two DVDs (and associated boots, of course) and although I love watching them, I'm always jealous of people who went to those tours. So lucky!

    The first U2 show I saw was May 12th 1997 at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas on Popmart, when I was FOURTEEN. With Rage Against the Machine opening. Needless to say, they always have an uphill battle to impress me lol.
  4. I think that they've had moments of genius during each era. I like songs from every album.

    Yes, some albums were better - as a whole - than others. But that doesn't mean that I don't enjoy them if they are not 100% perfect masterpieces.

    For those that don't agree - that's okay. It isn't going to make me enjoy NLOTH or HTDAAB or ATYCLB any less because someone doesn't like them or thinks they are 'inferior' (they aren't).

    I sat listening to the best of 80-90 today and I was just buzzing off New Years Day and When Love Comes to Town, and thought, yeah this probably was their best era. In spite of that I dont really agree with people saying that they are past it. Its awfully difficult to produce great album after great album, and just because every U2 album hasnt been a masterpiece, they've been slated. I mean you arent going to get a JT or a UF everytime. But that doesnt make the band rubbish. It just annoys me when people say that.

  5. Damn, i feel so old now, having been brought up with U2 since the early 80's....

    To me, nothing and i mean NOTHING can beat their raw energy of around that time, the War Tour, the Red Rocks concert, the great thing about U2 is that they wrote great songs back then, and continue to write great songs today, in fact NLOTH has some of the best songs written since Achtung Baby & Joshua Tree, and thats what makes it still exciting for me as a fan.

    They obviously don't have that same energy they once had, but make up for it with big productions with concerts to keep people interested, the songs all stand up anyway, old & new.

    Like alot of younger fans, i wish i was old enough to goto a War Tour gig, like people who missed out on Zoo or Popmart [both of those were awesome, but Vertigo was better imo].

    they said you had to be born in the sixtees
    i love The beatles ..like the stones ...the doors i got a great jimi hendrix collection ...
    and love the flower power period .....

    I'm probably in your boat Stu. As someone who remembers very well the dizzying heights of Pride and JT through to Zoo, I stood back in awe of them and I continue to do so today. When I was in high school, Achtung Baby was the absolute franchise for a good three to four years. Everyone, from the cool kids to the geeks, just adored it. And Bono was the coolest cat walking God's green earth. He's not that cool anymore, but it really makes my blood boil when people opt for the cheap throw-away line and say they're past it without ever having listened to the new album. If they've given it a good listen and hate it, then fine. But to just judge them on commercial success of the new stuff is bullshit.

    The Eagles' new album would have sold about 10 copies worldwide, but they go down in folklore as one of the all-time great bands. The last effort doesn't change that. Ok, so U2 are now the nice-guy elderstatemen of rock and are ultra-rehearsed and produced. It's called evolution people. If they continued to produced albums that that sound like ABs and JTs even today they would be described as boring and no longer relevant for contemporary tastes and music trends.

    People need to remember, these guys have survived the full gambit of music eras - post-punk, romantic, disco, pop, rap, hip-hop, heavy-metal, hard rock, dance, trance, grunge, garage rock, goth, and now emo and new-age romantics. People also need to remember, they continue to attract new fans. This site is a testament to that.

    I'm with Stu in that if I had a time machine, I'd go back past the TUF and JT and go to Red Rocks. What an amazing time that would have been, knowing that these guys were destined for greatness. Or even further back to their small house shows of Boy and October.

    Anyway just a few random gibberish thoughts.

    did u see Eric Bana on Rove, cuz his new movie is about him being able to Time travel, Rove asked him what he'd do if he actually could go back in time. Eric said he'd like to go back to the early 80's and see U2 play a pub gig, i would love that too. like u said, sitting thier watching them, knowing they r going to become the best band EVER.

    I never knew he was a fan!

    Honestly, 30 years of making high quality records at regular intervals. Think about it. Who else has done that?


  12. Hell yeh, i only became a fan in 2006, and im pissed it took me so long to get into/discover them
    but when i play a U2 song at work, or in the car, my freinds agree that they r bloody good tunes, much better then the computer generated kanye-esque shit that is played on the radios now-a-days how do people enjoy that shit?? i can make that kind of music on my pc, and most of the time they cant really sing.
