I think they did peak from 1987-1993, however I know poeple that think NLOTH is there best album yet, so it all comes down to opinion, the band is still on fire, regardless of what people say about them. Look at other bands in the 80's that were as famous, The Police, Genesis, Bon Jovi, Duran Duran (okay, threw that one in there) They're all either not making music anymore, or they're doing it seperated from their bands, or they're on some reunion tour to make a quick buck. U2 will probably never do any of these, they'll make good music until the day they can't anymore, as a band.

    Bon Jovi do still make music together and not as a reunion, in fairness. Just that they've stuck to the same formula for the last 25 years (as with AC/DC).

    Ah, my bad, someone told me they were doing a reunion tour this past year when they came through my home town.
  6. Mwah...certain things were better, other things were worse in the past.
    For instance: the lyrics weren't very much in their 80's period, Bono became way better on writing text.
    On the other side; they indeed dared more back in the eighties...

    Overall, to me, it all came together in the 90's, when everything was on its top...

    I sat listening to the best of 80-90 today and I was just buzzing off New Years Day and When Love Comes to Town, and thought, yeah this probably was their best era. In spite of that I dont really agree with people saying that they are past it. Its awfully difficult to produce great album after great album, and just because every U2 album hasnt been a masterpiece, they've been slated. I mean you arent going to get a JT or a UF everytime. But that doesnt make the band rubbish. It just annoys me when people say that.

    They indeed had their ups and downs, and there are always people (in the media and outside, especially the media and some people in the entertainment business) who think U2 are a sell-out: they only make too much commercial music. I recently read an articel about a singer of some Dutch hard rock band who said that he "would be glad if his band could shake the new songs out of their sleeves just as easy as U does."....yeah, right.

    U2 may be commercial (not in my book, BTW), but what is wrong with that?
    And is it commercial because their music sells that well? Because they sold millions of records? I don't know. Their best albums in my opinion were TUF, TJT, AB, Zooropa, ATYCLB, HTDAAB and NLOTH. So, there's always something in almost every era.

    So, you're right when people say that. It IS annoying with a capital "A".

    Being commercial is absolutely not the same as selling millions of records. Being commercial in my opinion is always record the same kind of music and to take no chance what so ever as a band. Being slick. Spandau Ballet is a good example. I like their music and they are 80's icons, but now they come up with a new album after 20 years and it's full of old songs in a new version. That is commercial!

    And of course U2 can't produce one masterpiece after another. Crap when people even think that U2 should only produce masterpices: no one can do that.

    If I compare them to the Stones, it's the same story. Their albums keep selling and their tours are always sold out. And their songs are evergreens. If I go back in time a bit more, there are the Beatles and they didin't even last 25 years. Still those songs are evergreens. Classical almost....

    U2 will be in that same category with the Beatles and the Stones when we have stopped listening to them long ago.
