    Belfast would be cool
  2. Yeah !!!..Got tix today.July 19,2010.NYC !!!!!! New Meadowlands Stadium.Lower level sec 109.Nice !!!
  3. But before you generalize, understand that there is a difference in an indoor and outdoor show. BOTH US DVD's were shot indoors.

Less people than an outdoor show. Bigger crowd looks like a bigger response. Darker arena means you are not seeing/feeling as much as can be seen/filmed in an outdoor show.

Then there is how something is shot. Many fans I've talked to are not huge fans of Hamish Hamilton's work on the two US DVDs (Boston Elevation and Chicago Vertigo). But then again, didn't he shoot Slane - which was better.

Why better? Could be more than just demographic. I've been to US shows and seen very active crowds. (San Jose, Oakland, Phoenix, Las Vegas...)

I'm not saying US shows are the 'winner'. I'm just saying there are some that are generalizing, based on DVD's that don't always tell the whole story.

Starting from the 90's we've had DVD's from Australia, Mexico, Ireland, Milan (sort of), South America and two from the States. It just so happens that the two worst audiences were in the US.

While I won't generalise completely this shouldn't be totally ignored either.

  4. Speaking of places U2 always play well and the crowds are always great... Holland. I've seen U2 in Rotterdam (opening 3 shows of Zooropa tour) and those were some of the best shows I've ever seen.

Well said. One thing to add. What about Tempe 1987??..from Rattle and Hum?????..that was an American crowd. They were fantastic. That film has the only clips from a U2 show at an American Stadium.22 years ago.

Is it just me or are you obsessed with the number of dates that occur in NY? Pointing out that NY had more dates on the last tour than any other city - what about this tour? It had two dates, the same as Zagreb, London, Paris, Gothenberg etc. It's really not that special. I don't even feel the need to point out which city was the only one to get 3 dates...

eh...ya wha? What a total load of manure. I've heard more sense coming from people obsessed with cats Where's the straight-jacket...???

Are you really trying to argue that American audiences are portrayed as quieter because the DVD's take place indoors? That once a roof is put over someone's head they become immune to adrenaline?

Two things; we see crowd members much more clearly in the US-based DVD's than we do in Slane, Sydney or Mexico City (the exception being that girl in Popmart on the shoulders of whom I presume at the time was her boyfriend (did they ever tie the knot - I wonder..) singing 'Discotheque'. Those crowds never looked like getting anywhere near as pumped as the Mexican, Aussie and 'Mick crowds.. Maybe Hamish thought that the American crowds were better looking than those at Slane (in which case there's no argument from me). I bet we could blame most of Yamish's shoddy directing on some geeky, horny personality he's got.

Just because an audience is smaller doesn't mean it's quieter. Sports being a clear example otherwise. Manchester United (my other great love in life) have the largest capacity ground in England but regularly struggle to make much noise - dare I say it but due to a huge corporate and foreign following of which the Irish are very guilty.

There are far noisier fans despite having far smaller grounds.

2nd Point: Rose Bowl. Pasadena. 96,000. Outdoors. Most crowd movement came from bathroom breaks. Short concise (one-word) sentences hammer down a point.
