  1. U2 are disappointing me left and right. It seems they can't get a hold of themselves and get things done right. Bands have reality checks and THEN they wake up or break up. I think U2 need one. Well, not all of U2. Bono and management need them. Live wise, they used to be great, but I've noticed that Bono is slipping. I would like to know who chooses the setlists too. I'm still in disbelief about the Pasadena show and what went wrong.

    True. But I wish there wasn't all kinds of Songs Of Ascent talk out there already. I mean in the first U2 Rolling Stone from this year, Bono said that it would be out by the end of '09/early 2010 and went so far as to say what the first single would be. I think that's why we're all so up in arms about this.

    Exactly - that's how we got Zooropa, and thank God for that album. Post-Pop U2 has had a tendency to be scared of being daring.

    They have set up all these traps for themselves - "one shit album and we're done" and "we are applying to be the biggest band in the world" - though they have an experimental side that they WANT embrace...a meditative/spiritual atmospheric middle-eastern inspired album (what SOA has been hinted to be)? Fantastic!

    They should leave their checklist of fame and singles at the door...release SOA, and be comforted that they'll still wake up rock stars and millionaires the next day.

    I dunno, I don't want the band to pollute their own name by releasing songs for the sake of it. Don't think we'll get another album as good as AB or JT as the lads are more committed to other areas of their lives as they each approach 50. But NLOTH was a disappointment, particularly after its build up.

    If we're just going to get NLOTH b-sides then we're in trouble and the band may well sully their reputation despite the great live performances.

    By all accounts bands greatness is measured on the records, not live performances. The Beatles were average, at best, live but remain history's greatest band

    I hear you - it's actually a totally solid point of view - though I am not wanting nor expecting them to be competing with AB or JT, or even the Beatles...that sort of headspace can only be crippling because they feel in the end they have to be populist.

    I'd rather they feel free to EXPAND their catalog and reputation rather then obsess over it. I'd rather have the country fried JT, the Euro-futurist Achtung, and the meditative SOA be all from one band instead of them trying to live up to ever inflated greatness (which is how we got HTDAAB- an album I'm not so keen on).

    Taking the Beatles for example, we would be arguing for them not to release the White Album under this logic because it would pollute their pop brilliance - instead they released an album with everything from "Blackbird" to "Rocky Raccoon" to "Glass Onion" and...yes...the unlistenable "Revolution 9" because they wanted to EXPAND their catalog and reputation and explore all their influence.

    Anyway, I think there is no right or wrong here, only opinion, but I personally think that if they are thinking of not releasing an album they are energized and inspires them...they shouldn't be scared off because it might sully their reputation. If anything, I think they should just forget popularity and go where they feel...that's how we got JT and AB in the first place.

  9. Is this the first album (NLOTH) where we got no bsides? And please don't respond about remixes and live tracks cuz to me that doesn't count. This is really pissing me off. This is the first time I didn't purchase any singles. What happened to the supposed 50 other songs? I hope we see SOA next year but that prob won't happen so that's no excuse for zero b sides. And even if we are lucky enough to see SOA next year, they couldn't give us one or two outtakes?


  10. I think it's safe to say Mercy will never be released officially. If we're lucky we'll have to pay another 50 dollars for it with a subscription to the website for an exclusive cd.
  11. Am I the only one who thinks Mercy is a disaster that should never be released from whichever lyrical purgatory it's currently occupying?


  12. It's unfinished which is why it's a bit clunky.

    I think its overrated, certainly its not better than stuff on their older albums (it probably stands out compared to the rest of their post-2000s stuff) but I think it has potential.

    I like the extended first verse, the rest of the song is far less memorable.
