And being realistic, unless Songs of Ascent comes out, and unless it's distinctly different from NLOTH, there will not be a massive change in the setlists for 2010.

With 22-25 songs played per night I think the band could throw a complete random in every night rather than 'over-playing' the anthems/oldies/etc. Pride is my pet hate but only because it's been over-played. A long, good rest will give it life again I feel. Streets is my no. 1 favourite ever song in the world ever. EVER. But if it was dropped just for one night, the band might miss it and appreciate it a little more to add life to it again.

Can you imagine waiting with baited breath for the random one of the night, even if you weren't at the gig? I've been hooked to U2start on most of the nights the band have played in Europe (if not all) and it's been my first port of call when my tea's been brewing in the morning to find out what they played over the pond.

And I mean absolutely random. Does anyone think they will ever play Kite again? I can't see it, but it was played almost every night for a whole tour! They could throw it in. Same with Sometimes You Can't Make It. And Trip Through Your Wires.

All I'm saying is that when they consider a setlist, and try to balance the new material with the old, they could just put one twentieth of their show for the complete die-hards, couldn't they?

    Please?

    Oooooo! Please would be good!!

I absolutely agree with everything that you've said- even the fact that "Acrobat" could very well be played live before they're ever done. That's just more of an understood joke, as far as I'm concerned. They're twice as likely to throw in the random ones on the second time around- remember Gloria and Wild Horses on the Vertigo Tour? Perfect examples. I just don't think the ones you mentioned initially have much hope. This second batch, however? I would put a lot of faith behind those.

  2. Can you imagine him thundering out LIKE A DESERT NEEDS RAAAIN!... again

Actually I can't his voice is long past doing stuff like Hawkmoon, God Pt 2 or All Along the Watchtower again

But Hawkmoon 269 is better than so much of the stuff they play atm, just like Acrobat. They have so many amazing songs that are left to gather dust on the shelves while they play stuff like Elevation, Stuck in a Moment acoustic etc. They should also throw out Boots and replace it with Discotheque made for a way, better rock song.

I was just watching this rare Vertigo Tour performance and it reminded me even when stripped down of its crazy dance elements its stil amazing:
  3. Keep to the topic title please
  4. With SOA, white as snow tied in with october and new years day would be cool NLOTH will stay, along with boots and magnificent. Breathe will be in half of the shows, and uknown caller will make a few appearences. I'll go crazy will stay (probably still in remix form, although maybe mixed with mofo if that's possible).
  5. Moment to make way for Mercy

Unknown Caller to make way for Winter

Boots to make way for Kingdom

    I'm dreaming out loud!

  6. Splendid idea in my opinion. I'd say Kingdom should make way for Boots, though.
  7. Boots - Ditched
No Line On The Horizon - Stay (like it should)
    Magnificent - Stay
Unknown Caller - Ditched (which is a shame)
Moment Of Surrender - Stay, but at an another place in the set
Breathe - Stay, but hopefully not as opener
Crazy Remix - Ditch (and replace it with something that's live)

As for the other ones, the absence of NLOTH would be a huge letdown for me, though Magnificent and Get On Your Boots are probably more likely to be there. Don't know about MOS, maybe in a different spot, but I'm not convinced it would work as well. A segue from MOS to Streets, a la Bad Elevation Tour, could be great. Replace Crazy Tonight Remix by Mofo or Discothèque.

Agree with everything you've said here. Maybe some kind of a Kingdom/Being Born hybrid could also work as the pre-opener to represent both albums.
