    By the way, Ryanair flights from Madrid to Marseiille are less than 10 euros... I might do a quick trip somewhen in this month. Seriously.

According to the new issue of Rolling Stone (the one with Bono, Mick, and Bruce on the cover), Bono & Edge went to France for a "two-week songwriting session" after the band's free Berlin Wall/MTV EMA gig last week. That's just one of several bits of U2 goodness in the magazine, all of which staffer Cara recaps on her Scatter O'Light blog today. Other bits:

    * the band is still debating what to do about Songs of Ascent and Bono wants "to put out an album quickly" (go Bono!)
    * Adam says the band considered playing all of No Line On The Horizon in sequence for YouTube (was he joking?!?)
    * Edge says the 2010 tour will have "new things to show"

    Also inside is a short item (like, one column, 300 words or so, max) in the front of the magazine titled “U2 Begin Horizon Follow-up.” It notes U2 have a six month break before the next leg of the tour. After the Berlin Wall gig, the article says “Bono and the Edge headed to the South of France for a two-week songwriting session.” Then Bono is quoted as saying, “We’ve been playing really well on the tour and getting better and better, and we need to distill whatever we have into some songs.” It is then noted by the author of the article, Brian Hiatt, that the band is “debating whether the next record will consist of songs from the No Line on the Horizon sessions – the unfinished album known as Songs of Ascent – or an entirely new set of tunes.” And then Bono is quoted as saying, “I would like to put out an album quickly, but we’re only going to do it if it’s great.”

    Then there’s a little paragraph in the RS piece about the YouTube Rose Bowl gig and Adam Clayton says this, apparently not joking, “We started with the idea of going back to Morocco and performing No Line on the Horizon in sequence for YouTube, but we ran out of time to rehearse for that.”

    Finally, about the next leg of the tour, Edge says, “Because of the YouTube broadcast, I can’t imagine that we’d come back and continue with that exact same show. We’ll want to develop and adapt it. The next time people see us, there will be new things to show.”

    He also said that lanois called him to work
    with robert plant, but he had to turn it down because edge has just
    written a new song and wanted to go in the studio the same night to
    start working on it. The new album is technically ready, but the band
    are not happy with the people reaction over the new songs (he specified
    that edge is particularly sad when he sees people not getting into
    breathe as that's his favourite track), and so they want to reconsider
    some production aspects for the new songs, as well as throwing in a few
    newer ones.
    And finally he said that he's working on a new prototype guitar for the
    edge, and once it's finished they'll sell the license to a guitar brand
    to build it for the market, but he's not going to reveal anything about
    it till it's finished. I

    Good to see they're working on new material as well as old NLOTH-stuff. And Breathe not working? That's because it's not working as an opener, that is. Put it somewhere else.

    Anyway, I still prefer SOA itself. Just the rather ambient-like album with great tunes and melodies. A new album with newly written material could mean another NLOTH-like album..and while NLOTH was good, I prefer something different this time. Let's see what this 6-month time span will bring us.

    I really like the idea that they wanna push it further and make it like another dimension of NLOTH. I see that they are dissapointed with the lack of sales and hits but I hope that wont keep them from making more experimental stuff. I don't really want them to make another poppy, cheesy album like All That You Can't.

    You would think they've earned enough $€ by now but it still matters. Anyway, Zooropa was made in nightly hours partially during Zoo TV..and it is one of their best ever. A short period of time can do wonders. Considering they had at least 3 years for NLOTH (with a lot of time to reconsider and reproduce songs, or even completely rewrite them) I think this one might be as it should be: great.

    Jep, but its hard to consider that the next one will be better than No Line. I think No Line was their best since Zooropa... I just cant believe they will top this. But we'll see, can't wait.
