1. 1. Heartbreak Warfare
    2. All We Ever Do Is Say Goodbye
    3. Half of My Heart (w/ Taylor Swift)
    4. Who Says
    5. Perfectly Lonely
    6. Assassin
    7. Crossroads
    8. War of My Life
    9. Edge of Desire
    10. Do You Know Me
    11. Friends, Lovers or Nothing

Anyone else pick this up already? I went straight from school yesterday and snatched myself a copy. I'd saved the whole thing (minus the acoustic performance of "Half of My Heart" that surfaced on YouTube last winter) for the album...didn't listen to any of the leak. I popped it in the car stereo and listened to "Heartbreak Warfare", only to go back and restart it as soon as it ended. By far my favorite Mayer song to date, and I love his music.

"Half of My Heart" was better at the One Splendid Evening gig he premiered it at last winter- the Taylor Swift addition is barely even noticeable, which makes the credit seem forced. "Who Says" really grew on me as a first single, and I'm fully satisfied that "Heartbreak Warfare" has been chosen for the second.

"Perfectly Lonely" is a good track, but not fantastic. "Assassin" on the other hand, connected with me right away, and continues to be one of my favorites.

Here the album begins to slow down in my opinion, grudging on, though I do believe that they will grow on me with time. His music always does. "Friends, Lovers or Nothing" is a fantastic closer.

His live show was broadcasted on Fuse last night, from the Beacon Theater- AMAZING performance.

    Chat it up!
  2. Amazing musician, if you can get past the horrendous facial expressions he (used to?) has/have when he'd play live. Didn't realize it was out already, I'm going to pick it up ASAP

I used to giggle at the faces too, until I realized it's not really something he's doing on purpose, and I'm not going to take any credit away from the fact that he's so immersed in his music, he can't control what his face does when he's trying to sing a particular way. In my opinion, if you feel the shape of your face is going to convey the exact sound you feel in your heart when you're singing live, you shouldn't have to worry about looking pretty all the time on stage.
  4. I ordered it off his site so I could get pre-sale tickets for the tour Should get it sometime next week! I'm a huge mayer fan as well, so i'm anxious to get it.
  5. He's the thing I like to hear after U2 and Coldplay...Love his songs...The album didn't arrived here in Brazil...Maybe next week I'll be able to buy it...He really knows how to play his guitars, and , more recently, discovered how to write some powerfull lyrics too

    Greetings from Brazil

I'll be seeing his final show of the tour in Chicago! There was a live-streamed performance of his BS release celebration concert at the Beacon Theater in NY on Fuse last night...if you didn't happen to catch it, check it out on YouTube- the setlist was to die for. Hope it stays relatively the same.

  8. Doesn't he just write the usual adult contemporary sap? The man did date Jessica Simpson , how good a lyricist can he be?

    ignorance strikes again!

  10. +1.

"I don't care if we don't sleep at all tonight
Let's fix this whole thing now
I swear to God we're gonna get it right
If you lay your weapon down
    Red wine and Ambien;
    You're talkin' shit again
    It's heartbreak warfare
Good to know its all a game
    Disappointment has a name-
    It's heartbreak.
    Heartbreak warfare."

It's not the quality of the lyric- how masterfully it is crafted, etc.- but the trueness of its meaning, and its ability to relate. And John Mayer sings with such a passion in this verse that it's truer than any crafty lyric I've ever deciphered

Oh, I get you, so you don't mean the lyrics are 'masterful' in the sense of songs like One.
You like the honesty. He does have an excellent voice though

  12. One of my favorites lyrics is the lyric from Belief...It's amazing, and it's even better live...

    Some interesting parts...

    Is there anyone who
    Ever remembers
    Changin their mind from
    The paint on a sign
    Is there anyone who
    Really recalls
Ever break your rank at all
    For something someone yelled
    Real loud one time

    Oh everyone believes
In how they think it oughta be
    Oh everyone believes
    And they're not goin easily

    Belief is a beautiful armor
That makes for the heaviest sword
    Like punchin underwater
You never can hit who you're trying for
    Some need the exhibiton
Some have to know they tried
    It's the chemical weapon
For the war that's ragin on inside

    Oh everyone believes
    From emptyness to everything
    Oh everyone believes
    And no ones goin quietly

We're never gonna win the world
We're never gonna stop the war
We're never gonna beat this if belief
    Is what we're fightin for
