1. I can't wait to get the CD...Just the names of the songs make me feel excited hehe
  2. He's on letterman tonight. I wonder if he'll play Who Say's, or Heartbreak Warfare. I'm hoping for the latter myself. (even though it does sound a lot like Bad, and if you disagree, play the song, and sing "bad" over it, fits perfectly)

EDIT: Played Who Say's. Have to admit, the song is growing on me, excited to see him in concert in february.

"Who Says" is a great song, after listening to it for awhile now...but the sad thing is, is that it really doesn't fit Battle Studies. I see that on Continuum, and something like "Belief" on Battle Studies. BS is a very melancholy album, geared towards Mayer's own personal battles, which gives the album its name. "Who Says" is a very, 'I'm going to do whatever pleases me, and the hell with you if you're going to try to stop me'. It's optimistic.

Though, looking at it from another angle, it could be Mayer's 'saving grace' from sinking too deep. It just might suit the melancholy of BS, but attempting to overturn it, showing that JM really isn't a depressed, gloomy (COUGH*rivers cuomo* COUGH) man.

With that being said, "Friends, Lovers or Nothing" is a fantastic way to close such an album.

Oh, I get you, so you don't mean the lyrics are 'masterful' in the sense of songs like One.
You like the honesty. He does have an excellent voice though

I think both songs' lyrics are masterful in that they are composed of brute honesty. I didn't have to decipher anything in "One"...it was very clear cut and to the point, and stripped down to the very core of a feeling. "Heartbreak Warfare''s lyric is very similar, but done in a much more simplistic musical layout. "One" is not my favorite U2 song, however..."Heartbreak Warfare" has already become my favorite JM song.

U2 certainly has more of a catalouge to choose from, obviously.

  5. the album is totally amazing. I got it like two days after it came out. War of my life is a masterpiece.
  6. I think Half of My Heart, Heartbreak Warfare, and Assassin are the best tracks.

  7. I thought "Assassin" would be a cool show opener (and is my 3rd favorite off the album)...I imagined the house lights going off, and that cautiously confused xylophone part taking over the United Center....

But I love Heartbreak Warfare just as much int he opening slot, provided he keeps it there for the tour.

I dunno if i'd like HW opening the show. I like the whole thing from the Where The Light Is DVD, where he starts with some light acoustic stuff then moves onto the more production-styled stuff. The beginning of Assassin almost reminded me of Passengers, which was kind of cool, and yeah it would be cool to see him play it like that.
