1. Never been a guy of many words. But below is my opinion of the show I like this show more than some of the Point Depot's shows

    Performance (4.5 stars)
Lovetown stands for a fast paced, energetic tour. We all know the Point Depot shows, but the shows before were something different. The band was on fire. Just listen to Gloria, Angel of Harlem featuring Suspicious Minds, One Tree Hill and all other songs.

Bono’s voice during this era (and this show) was great. He reaches all the high notes and doesn’t skip words to make it easier on him. He gives all he can, but you can clearly hear it isn’t easy. The rest of the band were also excellent. Lovetown was definitely a peak for all band members. And the biggest tours were yet to come!

The setlist is not comparable to the set the band currently plays. Without songs like One, The Fly, Beautiful Day, there is room for songs like Slow Dancing, One Tree Hill, Gloria and All I Want Is You. Some of U2’s best songs.

    Audience (4 stars)
A great crowd, but not very loud in the recording. Yells when they have to, but otherwise not disturbing. Bono has words with a fan though, he doesn’t seem pleased with the way he behaves. Just a small incident, that doesn’t ruin the show.

    Sound (4 stars)
Very clear! Especially for the time. Don’t expect soundboard quality, but it beats a lot of decent audience recording, even some current ones.

There are a few flaws though: some tiny distortions. But even with headphones they don’t distract from the show. Also the lower frequencies are a bit thin, which makes Adam hard to hear sometimes. Pretty much all audience recordings have this problem. Seem like lower frequencies are hard to record.

    Overall (4 stars)
A show with Slow Dancing, One Tree Hill and Bad must be great. This show is the proof of this golden rule. A good show to put next to the Point Depot and Rotterdam performances on your Lovetown playlist.

There's still plenty more people who have posted yet. Times a tickin' people.

Did you think it was good enough to deserve the hype I gave it (One Tree Hill)?

  3. One Tree Hill is one reason why it's been on my iPod continuous for the best part of 2 years.
    It's something special alright.
You listen to this version and the 2006 performances in New Zealand are quite disappointing.
If they can play an unknown like Your Blue Room, they can surely think about ripping this one out again next year.
  4. 3 hours and 15 minutes for me to write and post... Don't worry, I will do it
  5. My review is in!

    Performance:
A rather nice evening in Osaka, where the band plays the last gig of the first Lovetown leg. A shame they start with a cover tough, really one of the worst ways they've ever started a concert...However, Pride really kicks off the night and together with New Years Day it makes a huge surprise by being played early in the set, while usually those 2 are played late on the evening. After these two a horrible version of ISHFWILF follows and it took me all my willpower not to skip it. People Get Ready, MLK and especially One Tree Hill and Streets are epic tough, nice performances as well. However I would've prefered Streets later in the set or as opener, but the lead-in from One Tree Hill is simply awesome. Gloria is okay, its nice to see Help! in there, even tough its just a short, acoustic snippet. Bad is a rather average performance, BUT still very nice. I'm not too keen on Van Diemen's Land, even tough its an okay performance. Bulllet The Blue Sky is awesome and way better than on R&H. Running To Stand Still is a personal favorite of me and they simply nail it. Another big surprise is Slow Dancing, which makes its live debut during a concert. And its a good performance. I didnt really like the end of the main set with the big band to play Angel Of Harlem, When Love Comes To Town and Love Rescue Me. Angel Of Harlem is better without the big band, When Love Comes To Town has never been my favorite and Love Rescue Me is even more forgettable. It would've been nicer to see God Part II, Exit or maybe even The Unforgettable Fire here. The encore is another slice of brilliance tough. Easily the highlight of the night with Desire, All Along The Watchtower, All I Want Is You and 40. The encore makes this performance worthy.
    Stars: 4/5

    Audience:
I felt the audience was a bit too silent, but overall it could've been worse. Some nice sing-alongs, but no-way near the south american crowds.
    Stars: 3,5/5

    Sound:
    Simply perfect.
    Stars: 5/5

    Overall:
A good performance, especially for the ones who are really interested in this era. This performance is in no way better than the Point Depot and Rotterdam shows, BUT it does give a nice view on the first leg of Lovetown. The sound is perfect, 4,5 to 5 stars for sure. Highly recommended

Question for the crew: for some reason my account logged out and therefore my name doesnt show when I look at the list of reviews...there's just an empty spot. Can maybe a crew member put my name there or something? If it isnt possible, too bad....cheers in advance
  6. Erm, I'm sorry but I can't find any time to listen to it in the coming hours. Have downloaded though so will add my review later on on the bootlegpages. Next round I will try again.

Don't worry, that happened to me all the time in the old BRT's...

Same here, except for the lack of downloading thus far I'm afraid, lot of work flying about at the moment. If the next BRT is one I've already downloaded then I might be able to take some time out, but no guarantee I'm afraid.

Haha, ain't that the truth I can't really talk either though...
  10. Performance: I was really pleased with this show...the Lovetown Tour was clearly one for fun, release, and winding down, playing the songs they wanted to play (aside from a few war horses). Opening up with "Stand By Me" directly into "Pride" was probably my favorite thing about this show...had I been there in Osaka, listening to that particular performance that night, I probably would have dropped a load at the fact The inclusion of "Van Diemen's Land" and "When Love Comes to Town" were highlights for me..usually I don't care for the latter, but it was nice to hear this time around. A little more tightness towards the beginning of the show would bump this up to a solid 5 for me, along with the decision to abandon "People Get Ready". A song I've really just never cared for. 4.5/5

Audience: Wish they could have been a little louder, as I like my boots full with the roar of an excited crowd, but the muffled audience was probably the thing that brings this review to its weakest rating. They just don't seem that excited. 3.5/5

Sound: In short- just okay. In terms of quality, this would definitely be right up there with the absolute best sounding bootlegs of its time. The sometimes-distant Adam, though, makes the EQ of the overall boot a little off. 4/5

Overall: I really enjoyed listening to this show. I haven't really touched Lovetown in years, and I'm glad to be brought back to it. Thanks a lot Drew! Overall, I think this show merits a 4/5 rating. The mix and the audience could have brought this straight up to a 5, but I'm being particularly picky.

    Highlights
-"Gloria". I almost ALWAYS love this song, and it is certainly appreciated in this show.
-"Stand By Me" in the opening slot, with Bono taking over the main vocals
-"One Tree Hill" (THERE, Drew )

    Lowlights
-'All Along the Watchtower" might have been the weakest part of the show for me. Covering this song would be high on my list of the worst decisions U2 has ever made.
-A little loose in the beginning, as I noted. I thought Larry's drumming on "Pride" has seen better days.

Thanks for a great pick, Drew. Definitely gave this one more than one listen, and it will stay in my collection, even in my struggle for space as of late!
  11. My review is posted on the main bootleg page.

    Here it is:

    Performance: (4/5)
    Passing Thoughts:

    --Stand by Me was weak.
--After I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, weird foreshadowing occurred.
    1. "This is not a disco concert!" PopMart encore, anyone?
    2. "The only difference (between the people in front vs. the people in the back) is you all have made us all very rich." The Fly, anyone?
--People Get Ready ruled for three reasons.
    1. The show finally picked up steam with this song.
    2. A fan got to play Bono's gutair and was pretty good too.
    3. "Listen guy, one more piece of s**t outta you and you're outta here."
--One Tree Hill & Streets are a dynamo combination.
--Bono messing up some of the lyrics to Bad made me cringe. Other than that it was awesome.
--Bullet the Blue Sky was intense as usual.
--Slow Dancing was beautiful. That was a B-Side!?
--Any U2 & B.B. King part of a Lovetown show is worth the price of admission. This was no exception.
--Desire featured a very odd snippet of "The Money Song" from Cabaret (substituting the lyrics "a buck" for "a yen" in the said snippet). I seem to be the first one who has noticed this. Weird.
--"40" was very spirited and it shows off Bono and the crowd.

    Audience: (2.5/5)
I've heard better but at least they participated in clapping a lot.

    Sound: (3.5/5)
Not bad for a 20 year old recording. Though it should be noted that Adam's bass was muddled throughout the entire show. The only time it was ever clear was during Gloria, when it is always clear.

    Overall: (3/5)
This show is noted by many as being a "backwards gig". The songs at the end and the songs at the beginning switched places for the night. However, this change was my exact problem with the show.

A good show knows how songs should flow and by place Pride, New Year's Day and I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For first, the vibe of the show is completely out of whack. It was only until People Get Ready when the show finally took off for me.

So the sound was good, the band was good, but the setlist was not good. There are better Lovetown gigs.
