Remember if you want to use that full 4GB RAM and even higher you'll have to go for 64-bit Windows.

  3. Yes, 32-bit doesnt have any advantages. All new hardware works great in 64-bit. Be sure to check if your older hardware has 64-bit drivers. That is required for them to work in 64bit Windows versions.

One would surely hope new 2009-2010 hardware would have 64-bit drivers.

Remember Vista and the hardware drivers debacle? What fun that was.

Yes, but older scanner, printers, tv cards etc dont necessary have 64bit drivers. My scanner doesnt, I got it to work in a Virtual Machine though.
But if you dont have old hardware without 64bit drivers then its a big 'GO' for a 64bit windows version

On a side note: retagging my whole bootleg collection using Foobar2000. Amazing how much you can automate I am now parsing all album tags for city/venues/countries and putting them in a seperate field. Just needed to create one rule and it does the rest on its own.

Thank god for Remy, he made me a foobar2000 fanatic
  6. buying yet another pair of CX300's. The new precision model. Awesome for £12.50. Current set cannot be found sadly

  7. theyre good, but strangely enough not hearing as much as with my normal apple earphones...

  8. Maybe a silly question but you used the right earbuds?

  9. I am. I could hear the guitar riddle during MoS (studio version) with my iPod earphones but not with my Sennheiser CX300. Another advantage the iPod earphone has is the remote controll.... ideal for on the bike. But apart from that it's Sennheiser all the way..

I'm considering my options for a new cell phone, and I have some questions about the iPhone 3GS.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to have been Jailbroken already. So what will that mean? That I get to install 3rd party software?

Is there any way for me to install apple approved free software without getting it through iTunes? Because I can't use iTunes from Iran, it says your country is blah blah ...

One of the reasons I'm considering the iPhone over other touch-screen or similar smartphones is ithe many great softwares that are available for it. Considering my issue with iTunes described above, is it still worth it? If I can't get the approved ones, are the third party ones as many and as good?

Now, this is the most important question and I haven't been able to find a trustworthy answer online! The iPhone is not imported here by any major company, it's mostly shop owners buying a whole suit case of it abroad and bringing it here. So, the prices are high. I think that right now the 3GS is around a 1000 USD. I don't know if they have unlocked it or bought it off contract, but that's the price.
What I wanna know is this, how are these contracts? Can I ask a friend to buy me a contracted 3GS from the UK and bring it here when she comes to Iran and then unlock and use it here? Is it possible to do? Will it cost me less? Will the contract cause me any trouble, like having to pay a fixed fee every month till the end of the contract or stuff like that?

And another question I guess would be this, any news/rumours on Apple releasing a newer version soon? Cause I won't be getting the iPhone till 1.5months from now, I don't want to get the 3GS and then watch apple release a newer better version of the phone a month later!!

The 16GB model here is around 650 euro's without contract. So you can save something if you can get it over the border.

I think the prices in the UK are similar, maybe a bit cheaper
