  1. In all fairness to the band, I did just read this...(from @U2, read the "off the record" this morning)

    As reported in our forum, "No Line On The Horizon" -- the song -- was rated #3 in a TIME magazine list of top songs of 2009. A fairly random song choice, to say the least. Oh, and this was announced a few weeks ago, but Amazon.com says No Line On The Horizon -- the album -- was its best-selling CD of 2009.

  2. They did have a pretty good year, yes. Not their best year, but still...
    NLOTH was received pretty well and especially during the first 4 months of this year or so, they've had a lot of media attention (thinking of the BBC rooftop performance, the Late Show with David Letterman, the inaugural celebration, etc.) Then there was the U2360 tour. Shows sold out so quickly, it shows they're still very much in demand.
    NLOTH may not be their best album, but it has some great songs. Most of them didn't do that well in the charts, though... Too many remixes on those released singles. Maybe some previously unreleased bonus tracks with each single release would have done a better job...?


  3. They should stop worrying so much about sales... There is a change in music. Like B said in VEVO, Billboard is worthless lol. The best selling album didn't even sell that much. If U2 release the next album the way they wanted initially (indecision makes things worse), with conviction it's great, how will it not sell reasonably? it's u2! But I think they were disappointed because they planned something like - NLOTH has great sales than we just release a more mediative album that will sell because of people's hype. Don't know... I feel like 2010 will be a great year for the casual fan like 2004, not so much for us

  6. I'd say it was a bit mixed. The album got reveiwed pretty well and then immediately hammered for poor sales. But the tour was the highest grossing of the year and by most accounts (still haven't seen 360 show live ) a triumph. So by the standards of 1987, 1992, and as much as it pains me to say 2001, not their best year, but pretty damn goood.

    My own two cents, NLOTH is easily their best of the decade, and judging only on the Rose Bowl show and bootlegs also their best tour.
