U2start.com | How do you organize your U2 bootlegs?

Just interested how all you guys handle your music library.

This is how i handle it now:

All shows are in a Music\U2\Live\TOURNAME\ folder

Artist = U2
Date = date of show in year-month-date format
Album = Just a fancy name like 'Turn On Your Radios Sheffield'

Also i have 2 custom fields

Location = Amsterdam, Milan, etc
Tour = 2009-2010 - U2 360 Tour

I am currently developing a program to search U2 shows on your computer and create a report on which shows you have and miss. Of course i will share this program with all of you when its done

So how are you keeping your u2 shows organized ?

Great topic.

In terms of on my computer, I have folders set up like this:

Matt/U2/ Tour Name + Date + (City)

So, for example, when I click on my U2 folder, I see...

360° 08-20-09 (Sheffield)
360° 09-13-09 (Chicago IL)
Elevation 10-25-01 (NYC)

etc, etc.

My iTunes however, is a different story. I used to organize them with the fancy names like "Turn On Your Radio" and such, but it became a hassle when trying to listen to a show on my iPod, and forgetting what Vertigo//Brussels's nickname was. So I have them set up like this. I'll throw out an example from each tour I have, alphabetically, along with certain exceptions.

The Boy Tour: 5/15/81: San Francisco, CA

Elevation Tour: 10/16/01: Chicago, IL

Go Home: U2 Live from Slane Castle, Ireland
Exception, because it was an official release that I ripped audio from.

Hasta La Vista, Baby! PopMart: Live from Mexico City
This is an exception, because it was officially released as such

The Joshua Tree Tour: 11/07/87: Denver, CO

Live in Irving Plaza, NYC: 12/05/2000
Exception because it was Elevation Promo

Lovetown: 12/01/89: Osaka, Japan

October Tour: 11/14/81: Boston, MA

PopMart: 8/28/97: Leeds, England

Unforgettable Fire Tour: 11/21/84: Dortmund, Germany

Vertigo//Live from Chicago, IL: 9/21/05

ZooTV: 6/11/92: Stockholm

The 360° Tour: 07/02/09: Barcelona

As you can see, it's all pretty structured. I had to switch it up for Vertigo to include the slashes though, haha.

Because my bootleg collection is small, I only have a folder for each tour and put the bootlegs into them. As for iTunes, I organise my bootlegs by dates.

Nearly the same. I split lossless and lossy,video in an artists folder.

U2\Live\Lossless\2000-2001 - Elevation Tour\2001-07-09 - Stockholm

U2\Live\Video\ (not yet tour based, complete mess

Not a big difference, you have all lossless stuff (of all artists) in one folder, and i have all stuff of an artist in one folder.

Mine goes as follows:

Folder - Tour Name - Date (month/date/year) - Venue

Example:

Folder Name: Vertigo
Within This Folder I Have Tour Dates
03-02-06 - Buenos Aires, Argentina
Then Track Listings - 01 - Intro

I also prefer soundboard or IEM/Matrix and 5 star AUD recordings. But I'll listen to them all. Do most people perfer the better soundings recordings?

I don't really ever have a reason to sort on date...I know where everything is when I want to listen to it, and even when listening on the computer, I plug my iPod in and go from there, so its the most organized of all my bootlegs' houses.

I only ever listen to one boot at a time; never consecutively by date, so my system works for me. Interesting to read everyone elses' though.

Thats how I do it.

Except for like I have that as the album title and don't really organize it as much for iTunes.

Me too. I even bought an external hard drive just for all the shows. Then i just copy different shows over to my laptop and sync my little ipod nano depending what i am in the mood for

Mine are just automatically sorted by iTunes. So folder names within iTunes\Music\U2 are same as album name, example being:

Wembley Stadium, London, England (15/08/2009) [BBC]

Then each track is:

Until The End Of The World (Live from London, England, 15/08/2009)

Tracks are named like that so that on last.fm they are separate from studio versions. If I just name each live performance of 'One' as 'One' or 'One (Live)' then there's no distinction.

Inside iTunes, the grouping is usually the name of the tour, so 'Until The End Of The World (Live from London, England, 15/08/2009)' would be grouped as 'U2 360 Tour'. Good for sorting into tour playlists.

The genre is live. Easy way to stop them playing on shuffle.
