    Well the N900 was also announced in the summer, wouldnt surprise me if the next one wont be in stores before next year.

    Well Maemo only runs on 1 device, android on more.
    Android is a bit more mature as a platform, while Maemo is more a 'standard' linux environment. You have a terminal, you have root access. Apt-get, repositories, ssh, etc. But it is a guinea pig,

  5. A couple of questions Gerard...
    I've been doing some deeper comparisons of the iPhone and the Hero. The iPhone's got a better display (more colors) and films with better quality apparently. How are those things on the Hero? The filming quality and the quality of the display...say you wanna watch a DVD video you converted on it.

    The screen is very good. Very bright, very Sharp and good in direct sunlight. I'm not big on phone photography and I never use the camera or video but their performance is average at best. its 5mp but only gives good results in brightly lit conditions so if multimedia creation is high on the list tjen the iphone performs better.

    Not really, I use the camera for what is it, mobile camera, a quick photo needed of something. I'm not using it for pro multimedia stuff. But I might be watching videos on the device. Again, I'm not a quality-addict, so it won't matter. What was really important to me was the screen being sharp and bright which you said it is. thanks.
  8. Been reading some reviews. Gerard, they all say that the phone is great, but sluggish, is that right? If so, how annoying is it?
    And what's all this fuss about the Google Phone? When is that coming out? Is it worth waiting for?

    Sluggishness is downtown the operators installing their own custom ROMs on the phone. There is an easy workaround though that greatly improves things. I've had sluggishness once when I had 5000 txts in my inbox. No issues since. Google launch their own phone in a few hours so more info then.

    ok, I'm not following again Gerard. I understand the part about 5000txts, but what did you mean by the first part? The operations installing custom ROMs and the easy workaround...
  11. The providers fill the phones with crap. You can 'reinstall' the phone though, without all the unnecessary stuff.

    There are different setups (ROMs) available on the net.

    aaah, I see..well, here the are no providers, HTC sells it themselves, so I won't be having such problems, and based on this:

    he HTC Hero[11] is the first phone to feature HTC's own "Sense experience" software, which includes a customised user interface. There had been initial issues regarding lag on the device, however a firmware upgrade resolved the problem to some extent.[12] HTC has also promised to bring their Sense experience to HTC Magic users too.[13]

    HTC have announced their intention to release an update for the Hero that will upgrade the Android OS to version 2.1 while incorporating their Sense experience. This news was released via Twitter on December 17th, 2009[14] this after an initial announcement that it would be updated to 2.0 on October 28th, 2009.[15]


    I guess with the firmware update and the update to 2.1, the lagging will also be fixed.
    BTW, The HD2 looks really good too! I just saw some of the features on HTC's site.
