A lot of people ditched "No Line" as their hopeful opener when 360° first varied the set opener by using "Magnificent" in Foxbo, and we thought we were going to start seeing more experimentation....anyway, they decided that it didn't provide the opportunity for Bono to really get all up in the crowd's face like he does in the beginning of "Breathe", and it would also be hard for them to enter one at a time. (Not to mention Bono would be too focused on playing guitar)
I believed, at the time, that it made sense. But now I'm changing my mind.
Larry's drum pattern to NLOTH is just as intriguing as "Breathe"'s to hear solo. As he plays, Adam struts out, playing the bassline, as Edge follows not far behind, scratching up a delay-rhythm similar to the one heard clearly in the Sheffield boot. And Bono can walk out as Edge hits the first notes- he has about 4 bars or so. A stunning light show corresponding with the accents in the music would be enough to blow the crowd away, as NLOTH is clearly a loved song live- it got a lot of response in all the boots I listened to.
I think they need to try this and save "Breathe" for something to bring them out of a slow portion of the set. UC, maybe? Or even after TUF (if it's kept) and before City?
