1. No expectations, No disappointments
  2. Yes, SOA definitely needs a proper hit on it like BD or Vertigo.

And I don't think anyone expects them to do another Pop or Zooropa, I just want the album to sound as fresh and innovative as those did.

I also think they should bring Flood back alongside Eno/Lanois and have the whole AB/JT "dream team" producing again. Flood is definitely is more in touch with current musical taste having worked with the Killers etc.

  3. I'd prefer an album where no songs are commercially successful. That way U2 can make unusual albums. An album doesn't have to be any good to be successful. Katy Perry and Rhianna.

Maybe people need to actually listen to the song rather than saying it's shit straight off, but think Rhianna's latest is better than a song with real meaning.

    Fuck commercialism.

Those were the big "rocker" songs on the album that were supposed to get peoples attention, and they were awesome. Now days bands release a hit that does well, then you go and listen to the rest of their album and its totally different, mainly because they know they wouldn't get a hit with their original stuff. U2 tried to release an album with their commercially successful song being Boots, but it was too strange for anyone to like. It wasn't U2 at their finest, it was something strange that the mainstream couldn't comprehend. I still think if they had released NLOTH 2 as the first single the album would've done a lot better.

Bottom line is, I agree with you, yes, they do need to release albums for their fans, however at the same time they need to release them to the masses. Sure a lot of fans appreciate NLOTH, but look at how U2 reacted. They were disappointed (apparently) about the reaction of it from the masses. In the end, they need a good mix of both.

agree with you aswell, they need hit single to get new fans, after all if vertigo wasnt released i prob wouldnt have become the U2 fan i am today. People who want an album just for the fans r abit greedy , give people who know nothing about U2 a chance to be hooked in with a killer single like it did.

It might have been a good single, but I was under the impression U2 were a rock band, not a pop-rock band.

  6. what would u class as a rock-ier song then vertigo, i cant think of many.

  7. all because of you. it's more rock-ier, but it's shite

  8. haha, i dunt mind it.... id like SOA to have a song equivelent to Vertigo.
  9. Yea, Vertigo was a great song, a lot better than most modern rock stuff.
It wasn't a mindless pop rock song designed to be a commercial success, take the excellent verse lyrics for example
  10. I've decided to stop paying attention to what the band is saying about SOA. I read every word, practically gripping onto them for dear life about Horizon, and then walked around telling my friends all about it, and when it came out, I was 30% accurate in what I was saying.

I like what was said above- No expectations, no disappointments. I wasn't disappointed with NLOTH, but I expected SO much different things out of it than I got, it took me about a solid 2 weeks to get over the shock of not hearing what my mind had built up. I'm done with SOA. Let me know when it comes out, and I'll be first in line to buy it.
