So you guys what was the very first U2 album you bought and when?
I always liked the bands music but was not a proper fan until 1992 when i bought The Unforgettable Fire and then bought the rest of their back catologue very quickly after!
I never got any of their albums, none of them were available here. But I got the Gangs of NY soundtrack CD (yes, it was sold here) and it contained the U2 song which I loved, after that some spanish friends sent me 2 CDs which included all their work as mp3, it was awesome
The first album I got was The Joshua Tree. On a school trip not long after it came out, a mate lent me the tape. Well, the poor sod didn't get it back for the rest of the week and then not until I got my own copy with my paper round money. When I was playing it loud in my room, my Dad asked me how long I'd been listening to U2 - then he took me downstairs and got out his U2 vinyl. Initially a Roxy Music/Eno fan, he's picked up The Unforgettable Fire because of the Eno connection and then gone and got the back catalogue. A new world opened up... Hooked from the moment Anthony Kirkland lent me the tape...
My introduction to U2 is a great story (in my opinion). My Mom has always been a fan but I can never really remember much about U2 growing up. I first took notice of them during Batman Forever when I was eight (and obsessed with Batman ans that movie). I loved "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me" and bought the soundtrack. Later I remember hearing "Staring At The Sun" and thinking "Oh! That's that band that sings the song from Batman, they must have a CD out now or something..." having no idea how huge a band they had become before ever being linked to the caped crusader.
My first album purchase from the U2 catalogue was All That You Can't Leave Behind. I bought it in the summer of 2002 just as "Elevation" had been released and I thought it was such a kick-ass song. I only sort of liked "Beautiful Day" and "Walk On" at the time but ended up falling in love with them and the rest of the CD that summer. My mother, brother and I would listen to that CD everywhere we went and I often think of that summer when I hear the songs off the CD. I think that's why this one is in my Top 3 U2 CDs.
