1. I've only heard the studio version and quite like it. Bono's main influence is obviously the chorus, which I like. You can't do much about Jay-Z. They're his verses and that stuff either appeals or it doesn't. For me, not bad at all.

  2. Nas is great.

Now I watched the broadcast taped over the weekend. I'm sure I'm not deaf but they must have put Rhianna's microphone right up (because it was like nails against timber), Jay-Z looked like a complete and utter knob but I couldn't even hear Bono or Edge whatsoever. Was Bono's microphone turned off or blew up, and was Edge even playing guitar or guit-syncing?

And what the hell was Rhianna wearing? A fucking straight jacket with a saucepan on her head??? Good to see it was for charity (can you argue with trying to help others in whatever way you want?) and they are trying to do something but as a proper song it wouldn't have gone anywhere. Well, with me it wouldn't have.

Rhianna bought it right down and should be banned from singing or entertaining ever again unless it's at a work function. Jay-Z tried to bring it up, and he try as he might but I can't comment on Bono or Edge because I couldn't hear fuck all.
  3. I like the song in general, but I think the studio version is slightly better.
  4. Considering how weak Bono sounds on the Studio version, it might be a good thing that his mic was turned down for the live version.
He didn't make as much of an idiot of himself as he used to do when performing with musicians of other genres, though. Well done, Bono.
  5. i think its a proper song for such a case.

i like it at first listen!
  6. I've bought the live version now too and see what you all mean about Bono. Given his input on the studio version, that has to have been deliberate on his part - either to appeal more to a youth audience by letting Rhianna sing more or because his voice was knacked that night.

Either way, I like Jay-Z's rap, pretty eloquent I think (especially given the limited time) and I like the main chorus. Not sure about how it tails off at the end.

Lyrics:- taken from a closed topic:-

    "Stranded (Haiti Mon Amour)"
    When the sky falls
    And the earth quakes
We gonna put this back together
    We won’t break
    When the sky falls
    And the earth quakes
We gonna put this back together
    We won’t break

    Sa Pa Sé
    My Port-Au-Princes
    My Haitian goddess
    And all of my princesses
Our condolences as you’re fighting against this
    We’re right by your side
As we’re trying to make sense of this
    Heavenly father
Help us see through these problems
    And for those that left
    Accept them into your garden
    So here’s my theory
    The country’s already starving
    So we sacrificed many
To shed light on all of them
God please pardon, I speak from the heart
It’s the only way I see this tragedy befalling them
So lets get involved with them
Hand to hand with them, arm to arm with them
    Until they get strong again
    When the sky falls

    Not tomorrow
    Can’t wait until tomorrow

    Haiti, mon amour
    Haiti, mon amour
    Not gonna leave you stranded
Oh no, oh no, oh no

    When the sky falls
    And the earth quakes
We gonna put this back together
    We won’t break
    When the sky falls
    And the earth quakes
We gonna put this back together
    We won’t break

    Learn from the past
    New Orleans was flooded
So we know we just can’t rely on the government
    We under the rubble again
    Here we go rumbling
When we gonna catch a break
My friend lost his mother and then
And then, Caroline lost her uncles and them
    Buried with no caskets
They just put covers on them
And the tears fall, and we fight back
The story ain’t done, it can’t end like that
    Nah not like this
Tomorrow’s survivors are gonna carry on your name
    You live on inside us
    Your memory’s alive with us
You inspired us to rebuild this country
    You just guide us

    Not tomorrow
    Can’t wait until tomorrow
    Haiti, mon amour
    Haiti, mon amour
    Not gonna leave you stranded
Hey, not gonna leave you stranded
Oh no, oh no, oh no

It’s not the angels that are on their way
It’s not the bells of Santa Trinité
    The people waiting, position vacant
for hands to help, not just to pray

    Ensemble, ensemble, ensemble
    Ensemble, ensemble, ensemble

    Haiti, mon amour
    Haiti, mon amour
    Not gonna leave you stranded
Hey, not gonna leave you stranded
Oh no, oh no, oh no

    Not gonna leave
    Haïti va s’élever
    Not gonna leave
    Tu vas te relever
    Oh no
    Nous nous éléverons
    Oh no
    Ensemble ensemble ensemble

We’re gonna put this back together, we wont break
    Not gonna leave stranded
We’re gonna put this back together, we wont break
    Not gonna leave you stranded
We’re gonna put this back together, we wont break
    Not gonna leave you stranded
We’re gonna put this back together, we wont break
We’re gonna put this back together, we wont break

(This charity single is performed by Bono, the Edge, Jay-Z, and Rihanna)
