1. I know it's an opinion thing again, but I really like rap music, and to generalize that an entire genre is "crap" is a little closed minded, in my opinion... I mean I don't love country music, but there are a few acts I can listen to.

I never said rap was crap. I just said those representing the new 'style' are rubbish.
  3. Haiti n. 1 on Billiboard. 65 million dollars raised.

I've downloaded the whole Haiti itunes album, and the Bono/Edge & co. piece really stands out, together with Sting's song perhaps. Some of the other things are really terrible.

U2 can still make very special music - even if the song is certainly not stellar, and even if Bono and Edge weren't alone on this one.

65 million dollars is pretty good. Didn't expect this so soon. Although I think the song is total crap, I must say I'm impressed by the amount of money it raised.

U2 definitely can make very special music, but not this one. Maybe the song works better for the Jay-Z fans or Rihanna-fans?

How is it close-minded? Modern rap is just a basterdazation of old rap anyway. Look I can wright a rap song off the top of my head:

"Shot a cop with my glock, went to his wife and f***** her with my c***. Everyone put your hands in the air, and wave them around. Yo, b**** get down and suck my d*** or I'll slap you up good. Yo, yo yo.
  6. They should have put that at the end the Haiti song.:
  7. This Haiti song really shows that with all the money in the world, a terrible song still sounds terrible. I think U2 should have given one of the gat song they already have but havent released.

This is capturing the essence of the entire history of rap in a nutschell. Well, put! 100%! Couldn't agree more.

Maybe they could also relocate any future rap-award ceremony to a location like Sing-Sing Correctional Facility or something similar. That way, you have most of those rappers together at one location.

How many old-school rappers can you name with vile like that (as you said about old rap)? It's perfect for modern rap though. You should be a songwriter.

Eh? You need to look into older rap styles (mid-80s to early 90s), not this current crap. Jay-Z and Little Wayne are the perfect definition of utter turd.

Rhianna, Heidi Montag, Britney Spears...none of them can actually sing a note or write a song. Name me five singer-songwriters that actually do write their own material and can sing a note, continually released albums and are still around after 25 years - in whatever genre and not found on a reality show and continue to be successful. Ten years in the music world is not enough to class you as having staying power.

For the mainstream, three weeks are long enough.

Most of the decent ones aren't around any more. I think even worse than current rap is the current rock trend. Seriously, are dudes painting their fingernails, wearing mascara, using safe lyrics (oh he said fuck, he must be a hard arse) and looking like a terrible imitation of Marilyn Manson doesn't do it for me.

Most mainstream music sucks. You need to look into the underground and indie stuff - and support real bands, bands and artists who actually worked to get where they are and continuing to do it their way, not some overpaid record exec way. Not those who don't have respect or morals.
