1. Could all you rap haters kindly take a break and leave this topic to be about a charity song.

If you want to open a "I hate rap" topic feel free (I give you 2 days before we close it), but leave it out of here.

That the album is No. 1 is fantastic. It's number 1 on iTunes here too. The Stranded song was No.37 when I looked 2 days ago. Not bad with no airplay (ooh, it's like NLOTH all over again.... )

Oh, I was there when the rap scene took its first steps and at the time they already used bass lines from other artists. That was in 1981.
But okay, since I don't want to be accused of dissing a musical genre in general, I'd like to stick to dissing gangsta rap.

And I won't say anything about the lack of musical talent for the rest of the rap styles....

    Okay

  4. It always saddens me to see how judgemental U2 fans can be when it comes to respect other styles or musicians. U2 have embraced all styles, I wish their fans would show the same level of respect and tolerance, even if they don't like a particular artist or musical style.
I still like the song and I think it's great the album is number 1. This is about charity, not a popularity contest.
  5. Normally I don't like rap at all. And after seeing U2's Berlin performance, I was convinced that JayZ was a non-talent.

But look now; I kind of like Stranded (even without taking the fact that it was written and released for a good cause into consideration) and I really like the song Empire State of Mind (by JayZ and Alicia Keys).

Next thing you know I'll be buying a JayZ album, hahahahaa.

I like the Berlin collaboration a lot more than Stranded

  7. I know you liked the Berlin performance of SBS Dieder, glad you did since you were there. Maybe I would have liked it had I been there to witness it. On tv it just didn't work for me.

And about Stranded; just wish we would hear a bit more of Bono's voice.

yep, but Bono doesnt sound too good in the parts you can hear him. Edge is pretty prominent though

"Shot a cop with my glock, went to his wife and f***** her with my c***. Everyone put your hands in the air, and wave them around. Yo, b**** get down and suck my d*** or I'll slap you up good. Yo, yo yo.

I see Jay-Z's next big hit (Send it to him before he nicks it & takes the credit xDD)

I didn't like the song at ALL the first time I heard it, but after a few listens I'm kind of getting into it... I think Bono & Rihanna sound really nice together, not so keen on Jay-Z, but that's just 'cause I'm not overly keen on rap...

For a charity single that's done very well for itself..
  10. On a sidenote, I'm actually friends with some underground rappers. I dont hate all rap. Just the mainstream.

I'm all for a I hate mainstream rap topic. Just give me the word.

As for me, I like all kinds of musical styles: hard rock, funk, folk, some easy listening even, blues, some jazz, Celtic music, classical music, etc. So Í'm not judgemental to other musical styles outside U2. I just don't like rap. That's pretty much it. But I must also agree that this topic is about a charity song (how unfortunate the event that a song like this is needed to begin with), and the rap discussion/Jay-Z discussion has gone a bit out of hand here, partly me to blame. So you're right: it is great that the song is now on No.1.
It's only good for those who need the money that is generated from this song.
