  1. Don't know if someone posted this already (I can't see it), but Bono is to participate on the re-release of We Are The World (for Haiti). Besides Bono, Lady Gaga, Carlos Santana (!) and Enrique Iglesias (I won't say anything now...) will participate in the re-recording of the song.
  2. Furthermore people like Vince Vaughn, 3T (Mj's nephews whose last record is like 5 years ago, needless to say that they aren't real stars) and Jeff Bridges...I dunno what to think of that. There are good and faous singers tho, even a whole bunch of that. However I'm a bit nervous about what will come out in the end...

    Music stars including Kanye West, Pink, Barbra Streisand and Celine Dion have re-recorded the 1985 charity hit We Are the World to raise money for Haiti.

    More than 75 singers gathered on Monday to record the track together at Henson Recording Studios in Hollywood, the same studio the original was made.

    Rapper 'Lil Wayne said he felt blessed to be involved, but admitted: " I don't know how to sing."

    The song will air for the first time on 12 February on US TV channel NBC.

    It will be shown during the coverage of the opening ceremony of the Vancouver Winter Olympics.


    The song has been re-recorded 25 years after the original was made

    Academy award-winning director Paul Haggis has recorded the session to create the accompanying video.

    The group of pop stars broke into an acapella version of the song Lean On Me during the recording.

    Quincy Jones, who produced the 1985 original, announced last week that the song would be re-recorded to help the people of Haiti in the wake of the earthquake last month.

    The song was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie.

    Other artists singing on the new track include Carlos Santana, Jennifer Hudson, Natalie Cole, Justin Bieber, Brian Wilson, Miley Cyrus, Usher, Enrique Iglesias, Josh Groban, Harry Connick Jr, Akon, Celine Dion, Snoop Dogg and Tony Bennett.

    None of the original performers returned for the re-recording.

    Lil' Wayne said he had friends in Miami who had lost relatives in the disaster.

    "I think it's amazing what's been done for Haiti, but I think it's amazing what hasn't been done for New Orleans," he said.

    Money raised from the original single - which topped $30m - went to USA for Africa to fund hunger relief in Africa

    Note2: and it's a very interesting point to note, Bono is not mentioned in the news...is he considered less famous than these people or is it that he's not involved?

  6. Part of me is happy he's on the radar still, keeping himself somewhat in the public eye so that U2 aren't forgotten about again by the time SOA or even the kickoff of leg 3 starts. And he's doing this for a good cause, let's not forget that, even if the group is a little....well, it's been said already.

    But part of me is upset he's been around so often lately...I was praying they'd either be shut up in a studio putting this album together, like the do-a-show-and-fly-to-the-studio crunch of Zooropa's work ethic, or at least in a rehearsal somewhere working on new songs for the tour.

    This is my biggest worry with SOA...if they put the majority of their free time towards working on a new record, will they be very confident trying new material on the tour? New meaning not played on THIS tour yet *cough*Mofo*cough*
  7. No confirmation of this? And even if he is, it's for charity so who cares who else is there and what we think of their day-to-day stuff?
  8. Why is it so hard to accept for some people that different people like different music?
    There are some of the best selling artists of different genres coming together for a charity track. That's all.

    Btw: Do you also freak out when you hear Cindy Lauper, Kenny Rogers and Sheila E. next to Springsteen on the original version?

    I guess it's an alright idea but I hope MJ's vocals are at least dubbed in somehow. It'll definitely be an interesting spin on the original and the demo.

    I hope they'll stick close to the original. And having Barbra Streisand and Bono on one and the same song is at least very interesting.
    My hope is that Bono will do Springsteen's part from 25 years ago: that was the most powerful part of the track and it fits Bono's voice perfectly.

    There's another charity song released, btw: R.E.M.'s "Everybody Hurts" has been released with a bunch of artists. Unfortunately I don't remember who participates on that one. But I heard it on the radio today and it sounded quite okay.

    My guess is that "We Are The World 25" will top all other charity songs, "Stranded" and "Everybody Hurts". This will be a huge hit, most definitely.
