1. Does anyone have any insight as to why Vertigo was played twice during some of the shows on the last tour? It's a great song but seems unusual to play it twice during a show. ???
  2. Well, they often do it in the opera, playing a song twice, don't they? Bono also refers to it as the Italian word for encore would be encora which means to play the same song again. Could be in honor to his father or to opera in general.

Second one is the fact that the Vertigo tour was quite similar to the Boy tour with An Cath Dubh/Into The Heart, The Electric Co. etc. One thing from the Boy tour was playing a song twice (often Out Of Control) because they ran out of songs to play, it could be that they wanted to do that too on the Vertigo tour.

Third and last explanation could be that Vertigo rocks as an opening song but as an opening song in daylight it didn't have the advantages of the video screen, so they played it again in the dark to make that happen too. That would also explain the fact that the majority of the double Vertigo performances was done in Europe, where the opening songs were (almost everyshow) performed in daylight.
  3. i'll agree with your third explaination there. Thats always been my stance on it. Vertigo as an opener during the 2nd Leg was just like the album version but when they played it again at the end of the show they always bought the song back in again after you thought it was over
  4. As Bono explained at a few concerts the word encore is Italian and means 'to play again'. He also said a few times 'this ones for us'. In the early days of the band they had such a limited repertoire they had to play some songs a second time at the end of the night during the encore anyway. One or all of these will be your answer. Although the daylight answer from Remy could also be part of the reason.
  5. I don't have an explanation but I like the fact they play it twice, it's like a circle end where you begin and for some reason I prefer it the second time, it brings the concert back to life

    nice theory
  7. this is the reason

because it makes you leave the stadium with your mind bobbling
  8. It was a homage to the early days when they had so few songs that they had to play some twice. Bono has confirmed this

totaly true second version was for me better than the opener
  10. 2nd version is incredible . Strange to play it twice but in fairness if you thought the gig was over and then they ripped into this ya would leave a happy man (or woman) I love 40 but would rather a finish like this any time

well said... that 'ohohohoh' and then that riff again is so cool and kickass. i loved moment of surrender this tour but i would rather hear them closing with a rockier song

Am trying to remember vertigo from U23D . Fairly certain the "ohohohohoho" part in that was the best I heard even though that show was edited to death . I remember watching it and saying "Jesus Christ thats incredible" . Either way it was the best way to finish a vertigo gig . Always rathered Blinding Lights to start although I inderstand the problems with opening a show in daylight ,
