Sorry, but that is not correct. Ancora means "anchor" while the italian word for "encore" is "bis". And it does not mean to play same song again, but to play an extra performance in response to audience demad (you HAVE to ask for it) in opera.
BTW, no, in opera the same piece is not sung twice so often. Maybe in a gala or in very exceptional performances (such as a singer's last one).
