1. A long, long time ago, when NLOTH was still being discussed in probably the 3rd quarter of 2009, someone posted this on YouTube once the tracklists began to get leaked. I had my hopes up that it would be on the album, but also knew that with everything that we already had beach-clip wise, this was probably a fake. Sure enough, it never turned up anywhere, not even close to anything we've got- but the fact of the matter is, it's simply beautiful, and it's remniscent enough of U2 for me to wonder if anyone around here knows what it is.

Perhaps it actually is a leak, and we'll hear it on SOA, or perhaps its something someone did with the M9 in his basement and put on YouTube as a joke. Either way, I figured I had a better chance finding out what it was by discussing it here than I did sitting on my ass and constantly wondering about it.

    Cheers!

  2. sounds like sumthing off TUF to me.
  3. I'm pretty sure it's not a leak, but a fake. It sounds like a good U2 fan (and a good guitar player, no doubt) got some fun posting a TUF-based riff on the internet.

If it were a leak, U2/Universal would have shut the video down
  4. Yeah, true...I was really hoping that even if it wasn't U2, it was some other band that someone got ahold of a rough track and posted it thinking it was U2, so at least I could hear the real song. Oh well.
  5. Hahaha! Have i got a story for YOU!!!

I actually messaged the owner of the video, and he told me what I needed to know.

This is a song HE wrote, thought it sounded a bit like U2, and he'd been hearing the same rumors we had heard about the song names, so he threw it on youtube with one of the rumored track titles (now true) to see what people would think and how many hits he would get. I guess you could say he was a dick for doing it? But I think it's kinda neat, it was more of an experiment to see how many people would actually believe it was U2. Truth be told, I did, and I hoped it was U2, I actually really like the sound of that song.

Anyway, since then he's changed it and he's using it as a song in his band, doesn't sound like that anymore, same kind of notes, but not like that.

Go figure, I hope I made your day.

  6. Thanks for the explanation, Alex. What I said, a fan with lots of free time and sense of humour

Ha! What a coincidence that you happened to know that about that video. Thanks for clearing it up, Alex, and it is a great story that he happened to get so many hits. Literally thought it was The Edge for a good couple of months, and then got skeptical when I actually heard the NLOTH songs and it didn't sound like it belonged on the album whatsoever. Was just hoping that it was a real song that I could hear somewhere, U2 or not, but if its changed that much I'm not sure if I'm interested.

    Thanks again, that was neat!
  8. Well, you can always play it yourself

  9. True, but is that plagiarism? Not that I'm going to be making any money off of it, I suppose, since my recording aren't bound to end up anywhere except my basement for the rest of my life, and maybe to a few friends who care...but if not, it'd fit nicely on the album I'm writing...actually perfectly for one song in particular....

Now you've got me thinking too much about an idea that isn't mine!! Oh, ethics, why do you exist...
  10. Fuck ethics, go on Music
  11. woaw ! ! ! !

I've seen the same video and had the same questions ; )
