1. I decided.

    1) Where The Streets Have No Name (live from Dublin, Lovetown Tour)
    2) Zoo Station (live from Sydney, Zoo TV)
    3) Desire (live from New York, Zoo TV)
    4) Walk On, live from Slane, Elevation Tour)
    5) Running to Stand Still (live from Sydney, Zoo TV)
    6) Desire (live from Sydney, Lovetown Tour)
    7) The Fly (live from Boston, Elevation Tour)
    8) Elevation (live from Boston, Elevation Tour)
    9) Breathe/No Line on the Horizon/Unknown Caller (live from Dublin, 360 Tour)
    10) Running to Stand Still (live from Paris, Joshua Tree Tour)

Now I would really like to get all of your opinions. Interested to know
  2. I think I only agree on Zoo Station

  3. Always thought Zoo Station was better organized and executed on Vertigo, I think the overall sound of all the recordings is just more open too, as opposed to the often-tinny sounds on ZooTV boots

Best Streets for me is probably the one from Rattle and Hum, followed closely by both the Vertigo performance from 4/28 (I believe...) in Vancouver and the Slane Castle performance on the Go Home DVD.

Other favorites that I've always thought were better live?

    Staring at the Sun
Running to Stand Still (JT performances for me)
A Sort of Homecoming (Again, JT)
Until the End of the World
I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For (Elevation Tour, 360 Tour)
    Desire (ZooTV version for me)
    Elevation
Get On Your Boots (The first ever live performance might be the best for me; the 2009 Grammys)

I think Beautiful Day is terrible live in comparison to the studio version. It loses its produced feel which I know isn't exactly totally duplicable in an arena/stadium, but the studio magic is part of what makes that song so happy. Also, Bono almost seems to throw the line "It's a beautiful day!" AT you in the studio one, saying it in one big swoop of optimism, whereas live, it's always bothered me how he drags it out- "Its a beautiiiiffffulllllllllll dayyyyy". I think it should be a solid punch like it is in the studio.

I don't think U2 is always BETTER live; I think the songs are almost entirely different, and take on a brand new feel to them. Witnessing U2 play live is a religious experience where you can become one with the songs, whether or not they're better than their studio counterparts....the music becomes almost tangible, and is a complete 'nother level from the studio cuts. Almost like two different songs.

  4. Zoo Station sucked on the vertigo tour, lost all it's Euro glitz and became a paint by numbers kinda track.

    back on topic

    Bullet (zoo tv)
A Sort Of homecomming (unf fire tour)
    Electric Co (84/2005-can't decide-)
    streets(dec 26th)
    Desire(Zoo tv)
    Mofo
    Mysterious Ways(Zoo tv)
Until The End Of The World(360)
    40(lovetown)
  5. Funny, I thought Mofo- while still an amazing show opener for PopMart- had nowhere near the clublike brass-knuckles that the studio version did

  6. Wow! I have completely the opposite feeling! Beautiful Day for me ONLY works live. It reduces me to tears every time!

For me the best ASOH is the one on Wide Awake In America, although isn't that a soundcheck with audience dubbed on? So it may not count.

I think UV is better on 360 than on ZooTV due to Bono really opening up his voice in the second verse.

  7. Bad (Saitama Dec. 4, 2006?, short and sweet and straight to the point.
Until the End of the World (Wembley Stadium 2009)
Magnificent is best on the Milan shows.
    Pride (TUF tour)

  8. In no particular order

All I Want I You/Where The Streets Have No Name (Slane 2001)
    Desire (Washington, Zoo TV)
One/Until The End of The World (Zoo TV, Sydney)
Even Better Than The Real Thing (Sarajevo, Popmart)
Running To Stand Still & Bullet The Blue Sky (The Zoo Radio Interview concerts)
With Or Without You (Slane 2001)
    Walk On/Streets (Sheffield, 360 Tour)
    Miss Sarajevo (Milan, Vertigo Tour)
    Bad/Streets (Boston 2001)
    The Fly (Boston 2001)

ah...I could go on forever. I guess you could say that I do like Streets. It shouls NEVER be dropped from the setlist...especially at a concert that I am attending. I'd be so disappointed.
