1. Been thinking of getting a vinyl player - I used to listen to a lot of Vinyl's back in the day on my mum's vinyl player and I remember the sound quality being better than anything I hear blasted out of a stereo these days. I am sucker for old technology though; CRT Monitors/TVs, Laserdisc players, old cars and so on...
  2. So they're opening the DVD with GOYB? Interesting. Nothing like messing with reality...and it would appear Breathe appears as bonus content? Nothing's ever simple with this lot, huh?
  3. I have a theory...
Yes, I am a freak for Larry, and tend to pay close attention- so I distinctly remember the audio at the beginning of Breathe being totally screwed up. There was a horrible echo or reverb happening. They seemed to recover it throughout the rest of the song, but maybe not up to par until almost song end. It sounded kind of like the audio was delayed from what we were seeing live... it made Larry's solo sound nothing like it does in person

I can totally see Larry saying it was unacceptable for video (to the general public). Only us die hards would buy the bonus version, and we wouldn't judge the whole show based on the first few minutes anyway?

All that being said, I still think the song is critical to the show opening. There could be a small disclaimer on the packaging that there were audio difficulties during the first 3 minutes, and that it is NOT a dvd error. I have seen something like this on several videos. Perfectly fine to acknowledge it to the buyer.

If that's not the reason, then I am completely baffled.

That was echo due to the recorded sound you were hearing in the broadcast, which you would have heard for the entire thing..they just needed to correct it after they knew what they were dealing with. There's no reason this couldn't be corrected in editing processes. People on this site can do things like that in audio editing software, and they're not even doing it for a living.

  5. The most important question that hasn't been asked yet is "Will we get that shot of Terry Lawless under the stage during "Unknown Caller???"

Popmart is actually taken over two nights, strangely. Keep an eye out for one crowd member blowing bubbles from opposite sides of the stage - although I don't know where the second night of crowd footage comes from. I'm sure I have a few official DVDs where the same thing happens but it's taken from three or more shows of crowd footage.

    Taken from U2faqs.com (Videography FAQ):

    13. The Boston 2001 DVD claims on the packaging it is from June 6th, but they perform "Stay" on the DVD which they did not play on June the 6th? What's going on?

    * "Gone" is a mixture of footage from both nights. The main performance is from June 6th, but the ending with Edge smashing his guitar occured on June 5th. The edit can be clearly seen in the "Fan Cam" footage as we switch to a side view for the guitar incident.
    * "Kite" is a mixture of footage from both nights. The intro is from June 6th, but the song itself is from the June 5th performance.
    * "Stay" wasn't performed on June 6th, so that footage is definitely from June 5th.
    * The audio during "Elevation" is from June 6th, however many of the accompanying visuals of the crowd were from the June 5th performance.
    * All of the "Bono Cam" footage was shot on June 9th. That was the only show in Boston in which Bono wore the camera. The "Bono Cam" included a bulky backpack which was easily noticed.
    * "Where the Streets Have No Name" is from the June 6th performance, but the line "Going live to the NBA" and Bono throwing a basketball into the crowd have been edited out of the main DVD. This can still be seen in the "Fan Cam" footage.
    * The bonus footage from the opening night in Fort Lauderdale is indeed from that show, however the audio track is from another unknown concert.

    16. Why were "Mysterious Ways", "One" and "Pride" left out of the Boston Elevation DVD?

"Mysterious Ways", "One" and "Pride" were left off the Boston Elevation DVD due to space constraints on the DVD format. Removal of these songs allowed the inclusion of both a PCM 2.0 (Normal Stereo) and a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack on the DVD. The band wanted to provide fans with the Dolby soundtrack, so that fans could enjoy the enhanced experience. They did not want to cut down on the quality of the stereo soundtrack to accomplish this, and made the choice to cut songs from the concert instead. Ned O'Hanlon of Dreamchaser Productions, who produced the video, had the following to say: "Regarding the missing tracks. I've noticed quite a few comments about this on-line. A simple decision in the end. Space on the disc is the culprit. The band wanted PCM stereo for Disc 1 and this takes a huge amount of space. Something had to give... "

The removal of these songs from the DVD was also reflected on the videocassette releases of this show, and the main concert portion of the DVD and the video are identical. Unfortunately, these songs which have been cut from this release are not available on any other official release.[DV]

    8. Why was "Trying to Throw Your Arms Around the World" left out of the Sydney Zoo TV video?

There are a couple theories on this: 1) it was cut out so the show could fit on a 2-hour VHS tape; 2) it was cut because the girl Bono danced with during that song refused to sign the necessary waivers and releases allowing the band to include her image/performance on the video release; 3) it was cut because the girl Bono danced with was under 18 years old and Bono drank champagne with her on stage. Easy enough to copy for the more technical among us, but not as easy to rip as a CD or live stream because I don't think computers come with V-ROMS yet. A clean audio feed from a wireless device can also work but then would it still remain lossless even if it was done in 44.1 WAV or at least FLAC?

Great points.Mysterious Ways was taken out of the main set,and added as a bonus clip.I thought maybe it was removed because Bonos daughter comes onstage. But I read a short time later, that Bono said it didnt fit in with the other songs.I still dont understand that.I thought it was a great moment when he called his daughter up.It is also out of order on the Slane fanclub cd.It was not performed last, but between Streets and Pride. It is not a big deal. Its just that the band ALWAYS do this.We as fans want the WHOLE show.We waited 20 yrs for a full Joshua Tree show, and of course, the band cut out a few cover songs from the Paris gig. But,like I said. They always do this.I Fall Down was left off Blood Red Sky because of some mishap. But,to cut out Breathe,a new song and the OPENER??..Thats like leaving out Elevation from Slane or Boston.

Yep, I'm pretty clueless about the reactions, too. I mean, on this board, the reactions are rather moderate. But other places explode right now as if the band had killed some fans...

Releasing incomplete gigs from Slane, Sydney, Boston, Milan? So what?
Releasing spliced together performances from the above + Chicago and 3D? So what?
No proper B-Sides in years? So what?
15 minute speeches during concerts where they could play 3 more songs? So what?
    Stale setlists? So what?
    Bono selling Africa? So what?
    Live Nation deal? So what?
Same stage concept for years? So what?
Astronomic ticket prices for most seats? So what?
Sponsored tours for years (while the band denied)? So what?
Heartless benefits for fanclub memberships? So what?
Releasing an amputated version of Red Rocks on VHS (without the opner btw.)? so what?
Releasing JT Paris without the opener? So what?

The list goes on and on...

But now they dare considering to cut Breathe, an opener that many people see as the weakest in years?

    Burn those bloody bastards.

    ... As I said before: I don't get it. ...

    Classic.

Do you reckon he wants his face seen on a video which people are actually gonna own and get people to think that U2 aren't just four guys - although anyone who knows the smallest bit about live U2 would know that. Although it'd be a nice shout-out to him.

Doesn't Bono shout "Terry Lawless...the underworld..." during that part anyway?

  10. So that's what 'The Underworld' is? I've heard it said numerous times but never actually figured out what it was. I always thought it was 'Terry World' I hear...

    That the bloke?

Nope, pretty sure its "The Underworld", which is what they've called the depths of the stage for the past few tours, if I'm not mistaken, since theres SO much going on down there, it's a completely different world of its own. Dallas, Terry, Stu (I think), and many others are all over the place down there. So yeah when he says "Terry Lawless, in the Underworld", I think he's just referring to the fact that he's playing, live, you just can't see him because that's where he is. And yes, thats him.
