  1. So many deep meanings can u find in their songs! But there is one word that makes me shiver, CRAWL. " You ask me to enter but then you make me crawl". Is it humiliating or distruction? An often word used. Accept my invitation to discover it ???
  2. I think it's pretty humillating. You move slowly and difficultly upon your knees, begging for pardon...

    (I'm not a native speaker so maybe someone can give you a more detailed/focused explanation)

  3. i've always seen it, as a song about the break up, someone asking for love (ask me to enter) then making it as difficult as possible (then you make me crawl), the lyric being 'crawl' as apossed to 'walk'. So yeah i guess it could be humiliating but maybe meaning great difficulty or slow progress aswell

    Yes, that's what I've always thought about it as well. So I have to agree with this explanation 100%.

    When Bono says the word 'crawl", his pronunciation makes me really imagine somebody crawling!
    I think , in this line, it's not humiliating or incapacity, it's a struggle, a fight to win.

    I think in this sense its also a sign of determination to win that fight, or someones love

  9. I think it means different things to the respective songs...I don't think they've assigned "crawl" their own meaning, and use it as such in all of their music.

    For example..

    'You ask me to enter, but then you make me crawl'

    I think is more desperation, hurt, and sung in spite of whoever's listening, as if to say, "Look what you reduced me to, crawling on the floor- how could you?"

    Whereas..

    "I have run, I have crawled, I have scaled these city walls, only to be with you"

    is more "I have done everything in my potential to be with you. I've reduced myself to crawling, as I thought it would get me fractions closer"

    So I guess, the discovery I've sort of made for myself while writing this out, is that to me, "crawl" in U2 lyrics is more of a call to one's reduction. Belittling yourself in front of whoever, for the better or for the worse, but "crawl" is used to draw attention to the fact. It's a vivid word in that when you visualize crawling, everyone else surrounding the person crawling is taller, because a crawl is as low as you can get.

    I don't think it has anything to do with love specifically. I think it *usually* has everything to do with the desperation and the attempts to get someone to realize what you're doing for them.

    What a suffering and distructive love when one crawls, to do whatever it takes to keep a love alive... Though you know whose fault is, who plays "Jesus and the leppers" , you still try , but is it worthing?!

    One more "crawling" in Staring at the sun : In the shade of the willow tree/ Creeps are crawling over me. Something different, isn't it? The common meaning, I guess.
