1. I'm sure I wouldn't enjoy a performance of Red Light or Wild Honey

maybe i'll make a playlist in itunes of all the best songs from the first 3 - now that'd be an album!

Boy is right up there. War not so much.

  3. Red Light is a horrible song. It drags my opinion of War right down. And I was also never a fan of Wild Honey.

  4. personally, i love war (the album ) sure there's a few songs on it that aren't so great but overall i think it's pretty darn good

  5. New York is worse than Wild Honey.

Shit, we've really veered off topic.

Let's agree (ha ha that'll never happen) that there a many songs that should NOT be played...they've had their chance when their album came out and if they couldn't hold their own then, they almost definitely won't now.

First of all, I completely disagree.

Second of all, I stand by the idea that U2 should play "New York" every time they play in New York (East Rutherford NJ, on a stadium tour)...it should be their song, and it should be their special treat for a NY show. Would be a cool little "tradition"
  7. it's been said many times, and it's never happened, but I reckon Do You Feel Loved needs a second chance. especially on 360, it'd be baller with the claw stage setup and whatnot.

If Drowning Man can be rehearsed and snippeted then DYFL should be as well.

do you think Miami should be played every time they play Miami?

i think it should only be played everywhere ever

It would be funny to tease or to snippet, yes. I think everyone who understood what they were playing would at least crack a smile, as long as they didn't follow through with the rest of the song

New York is a far superior song, in my eyes, though. It's about New York, whereas Miami was just about....was Miami really about anything? I think they just used the city because they liked the idea of it and it sounded cool as a song title, to be perfectly honest.

time for a massive difference of opinion i think!:

to me miami is an infinitely more interesting song than new york. the layout of both songs are actually quite similar but new york is like the ordinary brother of miami... -they both start with a sample (miami's is much more interesting and challenging to listen to), they both start with a kind of spoken word delivery (yes new york is obviously about new york but the miami lyrics are much less blatantly straightforward and much more cryptic = also more interesting to me) and both songs go up to another level halfway through (give me a live version of miami with larry's FAT bonham-esque beats and edges massive evil riff over any live version of new york).

so basically new york sounds like U2 - miami doesn't and most of my favourite moments came from the feeling i'd get when i used to buy a new U2 album and hear stuff i wouldn't expect and feel quite freaked out (in a good way!) by it.. how i miss those days...

and of course miami is about something! (see the 'year in pop' documentary)
