makes the NYPDs job a bit easier when the bad guys are incompetent.
  2. Luckily they are not.

Don't think its that hard to do I mean nobody checks every car leaving and entering the city. Could have been much much worse.

Plotting a terrorist attack is childs play.

If it was Al Quada related, there getting more incompetent. Granted, I dont know how they can get lower than the underpants bomber. When you cant set your pants on fire, you fail.
  4. Unfortunately, bomb cars used to be pretty common here in Spain, specially in the mid-late 90's... And I can say that preventing a bomb-car attack is not the easiest thing in the world, specially in such a crowded place as Times Square. Luckily, the guy/guys who made the bomb have probably the same terrorist skills than Bono as guitar player.
  5. As an Irishman I feel we owe a good section of Europe an apology. I knew we were in trouble but in reading up on the recession in Ireland recently I didn't realise how bad (in that some big budget cuts were made but not nearly enough). The only reason we don't receive much attention these days is down to the nature of the debts in Greece, Spain and Portugal.

I'm delighted to see the private sector here is starting to show signs of improvement, more so than our news coverage (which people rarely watch as its so depressing) has largely ignored. The NAMA deal in Bank of Ireland yielded a massive profit from a 6 month period that is already seeing large scale interest in private shares develop. The problem has seemingly swung to the public sector.

I never had much interest in politics but noticed that Greece, Spain and Portugal have largely socialist governments (although Greece had previously been under consecutive right-sided governments prior to the election last year) . To counter this though most Scandinavian countries have accumulated their wealth with centre-left governments so I guess the issue comes down to transparency and competence.

I am and remain a bit of a Euro-sceptic but this recession can only go to strengthen EU ties. It's obvious that fiscal mismanagement in one country can severely impact on the rest so governments will have to consider long-term management.

Rant over and apologies again - I am truly ashamed to be Irish at this point (particularly given our politicians continuously point out that we're 'doing well compared to other countries')
  6. We will survive the crisis

In some ways the crisis is a good thing, its only now they notice they are spending more than they can afford. Not only in Greece but everywhere.

There. That's what our government does all the time. They say that the crisis hasn't hit us very hard and that public finance is going to be consolidated this year already.

And it's such a plain lie that it hurts my eyes to have to watch this, yet the not-quite-bright folk of Slovakia eats it. The government has decided to build highways at any cost. They went for PPP and now we're going to pay over €1.5 billion more for something we could have had financed by eurofunds. The public debt has rised from 2.5% of GDP to 6.3% of GDP in six months and the unemployment rate is at its long-time maximum, and still they manage to feed people with saying everything is fine and that all they do is building a great great great welfare state. Analysis show that the government's PPP project is not going to be paid back until 2043. Now try not to love these guys when they accumulate a debt not just for you, but even for your children...

Their working tool is lie and all they successfully spent the last 4 years ruining the country. I'm pointing my hopes for a brighter future to June 12th when the general election takes place. I'm really sick of my country at the moment.

  8. Well, we've seen where abuse of freedom led us... in dreams begin responsibilities...

  9. So let me get this staright. Your against freedom?
  10. It wasen't that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's speech at the U.N. yesterday was anti-U.S. that pissed me off. It was the fact that he got his facts wrong. The U.S. didn't help Israel get the bomb. France did.

The irony, is that France was also, involved in Iraqs nuclear program, which was foiled by the Israelis, who in a somewhat surreal moment were operating with Iranian intel.

Atr any given time a country will do what is most advantageous to them. Nuclear armed Iraq, would have been a bad thing for the both of them.
  11. Who is going to win the British General Election??

    COME ON CONSERVATIVES!!!

  12. The Tories are slightly favourites but there's still a great chance of a hung parliament. Nigel Farage had a plane crash, btw.
