Flamingo isn't a cover album, is this from the Killers rumored cover album project?

Oh yes, I hadn't seen the "cover album" thing....... Yeah, that sounds plausible, maybe this is a leak from the cover album they were rehearsing/preparing, and not from the Brandon new album. Maybe. We'll see though, patience

  3. this song's growing on me, it's been in my head all day.

the "lay your body down..." bit is the catchiest.

Ok, back ontopic, let's discuss Brandon's The Killers' music and stuff /quote]
It wasn't off-topic in the sense that I was making a comparison to a point re. The Killers anyway.

But I disagree, certainly having a large number of people think the same thing definitely doesn't make it better or worse (otherwise the tripe you hear on radio these days would be the best music) but there are other metrics.

For example, Day & Age received far less favourable reviews from critcs than Sam's Town or Hot Fuss, also it's singles were not received as well as those from previous albums - and this is despite Day & Age being the most 'pop' album they've done so far.

Also, most hardcore Killer's fans (my brother included) have said that the general fan consensus is that Day & Age is their worst album. Most of them dislike the influence of Stuart Prince and prefer Flood & Moulder - and hey most U2 fans would agree that Flood is better than 'Mr. Madonna' Price.

Re. the first point, I did mention that it was an NME article so it should be taken with a severe pinch of salt lol. I'm not saying that no one dislikes Day & Age, I was simply saying that I personally don't think it should be considered as such because I myself love it, and I would like to think I speak as a pretty big Killers fan, but that's not a qualifier to say my opinion is superior to any other.

Something that Sergio mentioned re. Brandon's voice on the most recent album is a point I'd like to highlight - one of the reasons I really like Day & Age is because I think they created music that suited his voice far better, and I think he sounds vastly better on the latest work than on any other album. I think they paid more attention to the melodies they put together and made music that his voice was better suited to. This shouldn't be read as saying the earlier albums don't have songs with good melodies and the like, but I think Day & Age was a work that saw music being written that suited his voice.

I can't find that NME article, is it on the net?

With Brandon's voice, it's also possible he's just a better singer now, again I;m not saying Day & Age is a bad album - far from it, but it's not quite as good as Hot Fuss or Sam's Town, stuff like This Is The World THat We Live In is terrible and Goodnight Travel Well is long and boring. None of the songs are as good as Read My Mind or When You Were Young or Bling from Sam's Town. This Is Your Life, A Dustland Fairytale and Human get close but are not quite there.

Even songs like A White Demon Love Song is better than half the tracks on the album.

The guy also rips into UTEOTW, and to my mind is completely ridiculous in virtually everything he says. Anyway. I take your point, it could well simply be he's a better singer, but I just think it's that they take his voice into account much more? I love Read My Mind, one of my favourite Killers songs, and When You Were Young is good but there are many times in the first two albums when I cringe because he just sounds out of tune. That's just me though I'm well aware there are millions of people who think differently, and you're one of them lol, but like I always say, that's the beauty of opinion I think the opening half of Day & Age is the one of the best openings to an album I've heard in years, along of most post-2000 U2 albums lol. Anyway.

It's NME - does anyone actually think they're a valid magazine? If it was Rolling Stone magazine, who think Lady Gaga is a genius (even though it's been done better 20 years prior, her videos and music) then I'd say it's credible.

Oh I agree - these days NME has become a shallow...thing. I can't even think of the words with which to describe my disdain. The only reason I highlighted it was because it's an opinion of sorts, but more importantly it's the sort of overblown self-important opinion that ends up getting broadcasted to an awful lot of uninformed people who may well just accept it as gospel truth without examining it themselves. Their shout, clearly, but it worries me. Bands like The Killers and U2 often come under fire because the guys in said bands don't duck for cover when people fire smarmy potshots at them and they have committed the cardinal sin of becoming mainstream, because becoming popular and mainstream is the complete opposite of what it seems to be perceived as being 'cool'.

YAY, U2 got recognised as the most influential band of the last quarter cent. That's good, I never saw that before.

I don't think hes that bad, he's just like all the other anti U2 journalists, he's not even the worst.

With regards to the Killers, I agree that Brandon's singing on Hot Fuss is much more raw and abrasive than now, but I thought that was part and parcel of the whole Brit dance, Madchester vibe they were going for then and suited it. Like I can't imagine him singing Mr Brightside in the same voice that he does for Human or WHen You Were Young.

ANd to be fair, crappy singing on debut albums seems to be quite common, Christ Martin didn't sound too hot on Parachutes, or Thom Yorke (on like their first 5 albums) and may I remind you of Mr not quite so Bono Vox? Street Mission anyone ? Bono's singing on Boy is pretty abysmal, much worse than Brandons.
  10. I had read that NME article long ago, Harry opened a topic for it or posted in the Latest Sightings topic... I had a good laugh with it. Indeed, at least he recognises U2 as the most influential band

Agree about the Day&Age album suiting to Brandon's voice and singing style, that's a very good point, and kudos for them to do so. His voice suffered a lot in some of the Sam's Town songs (This River Is Wild and Sam's Town, mostly) and they didn't want him to lose his voice being so young. Kudos, well done.
