1. I don't care, I just want something official. I'm going to attend it anyway...

    Greetings from Brazil
  2. U2 to play Etihad Stadium in Melbourne?

Recently in Melbourne, there has been considerable controversy with regards to the turf of Etihad Stadium, a major Australian Rules football venue. This has included talk of reducing the number of concerts held at the venue, or ceasing to host them altogether.

Etihad Stadium tends to be the first choice for stadium concerts in Melbourne, and it is where U2 performed two concerts on the Vertigo Tour, on 18 and 19 November 2006, back when the venue was still the Telstra Dome. Concerts are a major money-spinner for Etihad Stadium, and it should come as no surprise that U2's name has been mentioned in relation to the future of live music at the venue.

An article today in Melbourne broadsheet The Age on the topic mentions that negotiations are taking place between the venue and U2's tour promoters. It specifically states that these negotiations are with regards to a U2 concert "later this year". The article also says the concert is "likely to be held before Christmas", as if there is much of 2010 left after that.

The stadium's chief executive has a strong preference for concerts in the final quarter of the year, and clashes with the Australian Rules pre-season tournament make it unlikely that Etihad will be available for U2 in early 2011. Melbourne is not without alternative venues to Etihad for U2 if they come later than this year, but the November/December 2010 timeframe is definitely the stronger subject of current rumours.

  3. Fellas,
Rolling Stone Argetina has published an article, stating that producers TIME 4 FUN has confirmed U2 will come to Argentina in early 2011, but still has not been announced due to they have no place to play.
Since River Plate Stadium is out for concerts.

With out propper habilitation of the stadium, U2 will not come to Argentina in 2011.

I've translated just a bit (I'm at the office and can't do the whole article right now!!! sorry).

The Bad Vibes at River Plate Stadium

River Plate Stadium Monumental undergoes studies following complaints from neighbors. U2’s 2011 visit in danger.

In the last years, Monumental has consolidated as the “ELITE” global stadium of music: not for anything artists like U2, Madonna and The Police, have chosen to film their DVDs in River.
“If it can’t take place in River, U2 will not come”, assures source from Time 4 Fun the Producers responsible for bringing U2 to Buenos Aires at the beginning of 2011, after an Enviromental report was critical of River Plate Stadium’s rock concerts.

The coordinated jump made by fans attending the shows, following the music’s rhythm, generates vibrations that can be perceptible as far as 3 kms and literally “shakes” buildings in the sorroundings. This vibrations are at some places 10 times the average tolerance, eventhough they don’t compromise any of the building’s structural safety.

Studies where conducted during the last 3 big concerts that took place at River Plate Stadium: AC/DC, METALLICA and Colplay.

So as long as this situation is solved, U2 will not confirm any dates for Argentina, they intend to come, but they want to play in River.
    .....

    continues

    I'm so pissed right now....

  4. any change they come back to Europe
  5. More rumours about South America: http://www.u2gigs.com/article682.html

Right now it seems rather safe to bet on Australia/NZ and South America. And there also is an interesting interview with Hannes Dander (production Crew) who confirms that the tour will visit said continents and who hints to a possible leg in Asia.
  6. Anyone one else see this pic?

Bono with Koalas and Kangeroos? That can only mean good things for us Aussies!

I made a prediction that U2 would only confirm after U2 had got through the Europe tour to this point. Bono has made it through 5 shows including 2 back to back so it looks like they are good to go.

With any luck, U2 are finally realising that we love little clips of them announcing things (e.g. Edge updating on the tour cancellation, the whole band announcing they were 'back' etc...) and we might see Bono dancing around with stuffed toys soon - Brilliant!
