1. Great to hear that your band is getting back together Alex!

Thanks for Matt. Actually, that "Musey" feeling is one reason why I'm really starting to re-think my writing style. A lot of people relate my work to Muse, and that will I think eventually come across as plagiarizing to the wrong people. Even though I haven't listened to Muse in a couple months (aside from the Streets cover).

I can't wait to hear some of the recordings man! The EP idea sounds like a great idea, I like the title. It could actually fit in with the EP that I'm working on.... "Optimistic Obscurities" or "Obscurities: The Optimist."

Okay, I've recorded Invader today, but I'll start mixing it tomorrow. I was going to take a crack at it earlier, but I'd rather do it when I have the house to myself again. The only thing that I might re-record is the "solo" part, which I actually recorded with my acoustic today. I only want to record it with an electric (some effects) to make it sound smoother, as opposed to the very rough high notes of the acoustic. If I mix it properly, this should actually sound great.

  2. I wish that I had a basement (or other place to set up a studio) of my own. I really hate having to set and clean up everything when I record.
  3. Thanks guys

To be honest you all inspired me to start writing again, you guys are so damn creative and it just seems like it comes so naturally to you, which is what made me want to get writing in a band situation once again.

Nick, i'm excited to hear the finished product of some of your songs, unreal. And I don't think you need a lead singer, judging by the some of the videos you've posted, you sound pretty good man, better than most of the local bands i've heard around where I'm located.

And Matt, nice studio, excited to see what you can do with it! Excited to hear some of the songs you're promising, sound great
    Cheers to you guys.

    Alex
  4. This "EP" is taking on a life of its' own...

I keep pulling up old ACID projects and finishing them on the spot with the new waves of inspiration...it just keeps adding stuff to this project- FUN stuff, don't get me wrong. Stuff I was afraid I'd never finish, and has turned out cool

    1. Wake Up the Riot (COMPLETE)
    2. The Fountain
    3. Liquid Truth
    4. Orphan Heart
    5. Close Encounters
    6. The Irish Ballad of Molly Pitcher
    7. Revolver

Could just tack on "Optimistic" and another new song and pass it off as my first album.

Well, that's great. I really wish you the best of luck with your band!

Wow, thanks! Really? You must have amazing computer speakers or something. Thanks! Well, same here. I'm in one of the very very few high school bands who actually have a singer in this area. Which, I guess is good, because that cuts the competition (for local HS things) down to virtually nothing.

Hey, this is great news Matt! Glad to hear that everything is coming together well.
  6. So: recording the chorus keyboard melody and guitar soloey parts again, beginning to mix afterwords.

  7. Share ASAP

  8. Windows Movie Maker = extremely hard to mix the song on. I've decided to scrap the project, because even if I did get it all mixed, it would be so distorted from Movie Maker after publishing it so many times. Until I get a new laptop, it's just not worth the trouble.

Damn that sucks! Why don't you use something like Audacity so you can just do multitrack recordings? Just record, then hit record again, and your previous track plays while you record overtop of it, no mixing necessary.

That's what I would love to do. However, my computer does not have a mic, so I can't record things from the open. I've tried recording directly from the keyboards / effect processor with another program, but it said that I don't have the right sound card / driver / whatever. However... that was with another program... I'll try it out (cross your fingers).
  11. OH MY GOD IT WORKS

  12. Sounds like an epihpany to me

Pick up a trial version of Sony ACID to use for the month. I've got the full version of the program, and it's incredible, really- takes a day or so to get the hang of, and then you're literally free to do pretty much anything you can think of. Makes the separate tracking sooo much easier, too.
