Pick up a trial version of Sony ACID to use for the month. I've got the full version of the program, and it's incredible, really- takes a day or so to get the hang of, and then you're literally free to do pretty much anything you can think of. Makes the separate tracking sooo much easier, too.

I already have one program (I believe it's worth $40) called "Riffworks." The only reason why that didn't record anything is because my sound driver wasn't the right one or something ridiculous like that. However, I just tried recording with Audacity and it actually came out pretty well. I'm going to record it tomorrow, I just got my feet wet today.... I'll try to see if I can upload something.

Edit: Sonoma Wire Works (Standard edition) costs about $129.

Cool teaser- makes me want the rest

  3. Thanks! Actually, I'm pretty sure that I'm going to scrap that. I'm not 100% on the tone, so I'm going to do some re-working.

    Fair enough.

I've got one or two things to add to "Wake Up the Riot", that won't even be possible until Friday-ish. My plan is to record a bunch of stuff these next couple days, guitar-wise, and then I'm actually going to be away for a week next Sunday thru Saturday, where I won't have access to a guitar, but I can still record with a mic and do tons of producing. Anyway, there's acoustic guitar tracked for Wake Up the Riot- it'll stay there, nothing in the product right will be taken away- but there's a small little thing I wanna do with an electric guitar, and also add a high-reverb, very spacious "scream" into the song at a particular moment. Until then, though, here comes the barest-bones version of the "Album/EP opener"

Hey, that was a great recording! Especially since it's the bare bones version. I envisioned telephones ringing, along with the keyboard being played throughout the entire piece. Are all of the voices your own? I definitely understand the reverb guitar part. Maybe around either 1:10 or 1:24 (1:24 probably more realistic)? Or am I totally off lol? Anyway, that bare demo sounded great, keep hacking away at it!

The closer it gets to the part where the guitars play louder, the more reverb and the more noise- cool that you say telephone ringing, I was going to do that but decided not to. Might throw that in. I thought about putting some more keyboard sounds in there, but unfortunately the space-tech sounds on my synth are very sparse- doesn't really have the sound I want at all.

Hmm... you say that your keyboard lacks the voices. My keyboard has 700 voices, and I'm very certain that it will have some (spacey) ones that you're looking for. If I find the time tomorrow, I could record a sample of a few that I think you might like. I'd be glad to record something for you if you're interested.

By the way, just out of curiosity, what brand / model is the keyboard?

It's a pretty old Casio CTK-491 (probably at least 5 to 7 years old). Please, be my guest- would love to include a sample of yours if you can track something I'm looking for. Just make an mp3 with some of your ideas, with some time in between the different sounds, and I can cut/track/level loops of the sounds. Can even change the pitch if I'm so inclined

    You rock, Nick!

Oh wow, vintage. Yeah, what I would basically do is record 5-10 seconds (maybe more, depending on what it is) of each sound with at least 5 secs btwn sounds. If you like one particular sound, you could actually tell me what you have in mind for it, and I can try to do something pre-production. Vetty cool.

    Just being neighborly.

Also, what edition of ACID are you using? I'm going to look into purchasing that with a laptop once I have the money. "Riot" actually sounded pretty professional.

  11. I just want to stress that i'm not Wapanese, Japanese, or a Weeaboo.

    Lost in Japan.

    bullet trains, fascinated eyes.
    LCD Panels, Manga Toys...

Here i'm alone again away from you.
Here i've found a place to be alone, lost in wonder, lost in Japan.

Dreaming the dreams we can't dare to
See the souls in the souls in front of you.
Feel the pulse, its different it's fast.
No self pity for the past.

clock tower, a dark cartoon, dreaming in colour, Sailor Moon.
LED time the dispenser rhyme livin' life with cloud strife in your eyeline.

Here i'm alone again away from you.
Here i've found a place to be lost, lost in wonder, lost in Japan.

Dream its beach in the rain
Have done everytime i've been in pain, or longed to be free
Now can we dream in HD, we live in stereo.

Here i can sit now, promise fulfilled , the inner child dreams accomplished.
Alone, alone in our this little world we've built, lost to wonder.

    Lost in Japan.
  12. Wow, Cal, what a wonderful and desperate metaphor of the world we live in today!! Amazing job, mate _
