see that thought is enough to become the final straw where me and U2 are concerned... they are officially the richest band in the world - why do they even need to worry about money and fans?!

they've been the biggest band in the world before - they went away and did something much more interesting and then i guess got scared at the end of the 90's and became the biggest band in the world again..

is it not time for them to stop caring about maintaining how 'big' and rich they are and just do something interesting again regardless of what the consequences for their ridiculous bank balances might be?!

the reason i became a massive U2 fan in the 90s is because i loved the way that they made really interesting albums and didn't seem to care what people thought. that reason doesn't exist anymore.

Bono is the reason. He has a 'need' to be liked. He didn't give a fuck in the 90's and we were rewarded with all of that awesomeness. Those days are dead.
  3. This thread is starting to piss on the parade

Im looking to see other fans being 'up' for the resumption of a mammoth tour and what Im seeing is a lot of negativity. I thought the word SPOILER in the thread title was to warn posters about potential tunes that could be played - not to spoil my excitement of the tour!!

I appreciate that everyone is entitled to their opinion but could the detractors either start a 'U2 are shit' ' U2 are sell-outs' or 'Bono is a prick' thread and leave this for the folk who are excited about Friday and the months that lie ahead? If you dont like song choices, set-lists etc, dont buy a fuckin ticket and let the rest enjoy the tour!

Mostly +1, although I also do agree a little with Ger and the ohters.
  5. The 2 new songs are beautiful !

    Bono sound great !

Do you listen to the last rehearsals ? His voice is beautiful !
  6. Yes folks, please don't ruin my unconditional love for U2 and everything they have done in the last 30 years. I owe them so much. Be grateful that they are still around to save us from boring acts like Snow Patrol. All the haters are just jealous..

i would've bought a fuckin ticket if they were playing in my fuckin country!

but seriously i apologise if i've possibly gone a little off topic and spoilt your buzz but i cant apologise for my disappointment in the band these days. but if i wasn't still passionate i wouldn't care and i wouldn't bother to say anything

but thats what i love about these forums - it's not always relentless sweetness and love for the band - if you want to be somewhere where its non stop giddy excitement 100% of the time and totally unacceptable to even think a bad thought about the band there's always the good old interference forums!

Ha ha - Im not an Interference-style fan...that is a low blow Ric!!!

Ive followed the band religiously for more than 20 years and the dawn of a new or resumed tour still fills me with a massive surge of excitement and anticipation. For that reason, Im a little pee'd that when a thread on such a topic presents itself, its being 'hijacked' by negativity. People are making sweeping statements based on loose rumours about songs being jammed in rehersals - some of them not even by the band themselves!!!

U2 are not above criticism and Ive never said they were. I just (naively perhaps) would like a universally positive build up to the resumption of the tour, thats all.

haha i'm sorry that was out of order

i can understand how you feel - back in the 90's when there couldn't possibly have been a bigger U2 fan than me, i used to get very upset about any U2 negativity but these days it just seems like one disappointment after another...

maybe this is what it feels like for a married couple in divorce denial and marriage counselling...?

"when i first met the music of U2 i was smitten and the sex was always good and interesting but then things started to get boring stale and repetitive and although i will always love U2 the spark has totally gone for me and i've found myself cheating for long periods of time on other more interesting music... so unless U2 can create something that puts a bit of spice back into the marriage then im afraid its as good as over"...

    wow what an analogy.....

sums up how i feel pretty much perfectly though...
