1. stingray is pretty good but it sounded better to me in rehearsals, i don't like that high pitched percussive sounding thing they added (i don't recall hearing it in rehersal) but i think maybe it could sound better if it was quieter and more in the background if you know what i mean, but other than that i think it's a pretty solid little intro. North Star is great, i love the melody but i think the chorus could use some work, and from what i've been able to make out some of the lyrics could too. Glastonbury is total garbage as far as i'm concerned, the intro is pretty damn cool, the main riff sounds too much like most of the singles they've been releasing lately (it made me realize how similar the guitar in songs like boots, vertigo, and ABOY are, and even going back into the 90's with songs like the fly and discotheque he seems to be using a lot of the same notes) but it still works, so then when you get to the verses it's really a drag, i can't really put my finger on why just yet, but the verses just really sound awful to me, the chorus sounds pretty cool too but those lyrics just kill it for me, also i think it would be really weird to put a song about Glastonbury on an album.
someone mentioned that they would be giving the new songs away at the frankfurt shows, is this true? if so where did we hear this? i'm really anxious to hear what the studio versions of these songs would sound like

Yep, it's their desperate try to sell out the show. Big promotion.

I'm afraid I was being a sarcastic bastard.

  4. I heard it was a leftover from TUF
  5. The Return of the Stingray should be followed by Glastonbury... not beautiful day. But North Star is interesting and could work as is just for the album add a fullband.
  6. I don't really get why people are fussing about singing a song about a festival when they aren't at said festival. I mean, lots of songs are about things and sang in other locations. I mean Sunday Bloody Sunday is about the Irish troubles but it's been sung all over the world. Pride is about MLK and sung in places other than the US... what I'm saying is that the song's subject matter should not dictate where/when it should be performed.

I've been walking around singing "You. Are. A pocket full of sunshine!" everywhere for the last 24 hours.

I've been singing the, 'SOMETHINGS YOU JUST CAN'T CONTROLL!!!'

  8. Don't forget it is played acoustic. I wonder how the full-band version will sound.

  9. True. I just thought the lyrics were repetitive upon first listening. Somehow, I really like it now.

  10. That's what I like from music. Songs need to grow upon you.

  11. Yeah. It was like GOYB, I bet everyone hated it at first and it grew up on them. My first reaction was "oh U2, what have you done to yourself?" when I was watching it on the Brits. But then I started to like it. It is good for songs to grow upon you. You hate it at first, but you love it so much when it grows on you.

Anyway, listening to the new songs again. IMO, Stringray is the best of the three.

In all honesty, I still don't like Boots. Live is okay, studio is cheesy. Anyway, I completely understand what you mean. I like both North Star and Glastonbury after several listens.
