  3. Well, if you guys want to fund a little jam session / support a fellow U2Starter/ me getting to Rome for 360

I'm going to put 5-6 much more polished songs for sale online for the price of 3 British pounds altogether, that sound fair?

I don't want a place, in a dwindling human race,
where the soul is no goal.
When older boys were my age they looked upon the old stage
lookin at the old sage change it all, change it all.

hahaha. I hope he/she recognises them

I know I'm young, but i'll make it mine.

I freeze frame to when I first saw you and we swapped names…
I felt more than passing ships, or passing planes.

You might have lost me in the foyer
but you never left me you should know...

Give me something delicate, fragile, free.
Give me something beautiful, awkward, bright and clean.
Give me a part of you to own, let me take you home.

    Sidewalk dreams of Stanislavsky
Polaroid pictures of you in my head
Thoughts and dreams too sweet too bold
too grand to be left unsaid.

I was too good with words too bad with emotion
Now I've caused myself this grand commotion.
    Oh no, Oh no.

All the kids, they were just like us. Wanted to be rich, wanted to be famous.
What I wanted was sanity and inspiration, and oh the amount that you've given me…//so you've become my destination
In All that I do, I've got to find you. Got to find you

I'll turn this music into light to look for you.
Watch how these notes become a searchlight.

So many years have passed, they cause me such stress
still I look for the girl in the green and black dress.

She had a flower in her hair, sounded like Gwen Stefani
Prettier than all the girls dressed in Armani

and still for some reason through all the passing seasons
she stays a reason to go on.

If you're out there and you can hear me,
I just want you, you to be near me so that I can say and do just what I've wanted to.

    New York. New york.

Cal, you have a talent for putting your audience in the moments of your songs. The "Stefani / Armani" lines are brilliant! Those lines should be tacky and lame, but... they work and they're beautiful. They're real. Excellent work as expected.

Haha! Haven't seen those in years!!!!!

Do you still have those Sergio?!

    God, I love this website.
  7. I seem to have slipped into a "blocked" stage. I saw it coming, because I know that I get bursts of inspiration that last a few months, followed by a dry spell. Well, here it is. Fortunately I can still come up with some cool lines and musical ideas, but I can't seem to go very far with any of them. Luckily, I'll be rehearsing with the band again for the first time in months, so maybe that can spark another few months. I won't have anything to offer anytime soon I'm afraid.

    You don't know that.

You know the best way to deal with the block?

    Ignore it.

Just as my block came to an end yours started! Cruel cruel world. The band setting should help, it helped me.

Sorry for your "block" Nick, but as Cal said, ignoring it and just putting pen to paper and not even thinking about what you're writing can sometimes crank out a hell of a song.

I went through a bad writer's block a long time ago and decided to "free write" for a change. I'd never tried this before. I had plenty of emotions, but not really channeled into anything, and I literally just let my hand write words on the paper. Eventually, it made it more fun as they spontaneously came out to make them rhyme, and after a few days, I revisited the whole thing from another perspective and made it a song- this is what I came up with. If you've ever heard "Only", by Nine Inch Nails, its very very similar in style to that song.

    "Pirate Song"

    [Verse: sang/spoken- a la Bono~City of Blinding Lights 360 :{ ]

    there i was
it was as easy as that
    i was just 'there'
    in a way,
just sort of taking up space
    and i was BURNIN', man,
i just couldnt get enough of that desire
my mind was all over the place

and i thought i was troubled
at least that was my excuse
i was just throwing the dead dog a bone
so im looking at REAL people
    with REAL problems
and speaking of real problems, well,
    im searching for my own.

[Chorus: loud, with an actual melody]

    And I'm through
    It's not me, its you
You finally (finally) threw it all away
    And I'm through!
    It's not me, its you
You finally (finally) let me get away

    [verse]

    sick of sittin' around
    I'M gonna live MY life
and the hell with whatever you think
ive been livin too long saying 'maybe'
but now im DOING, and i'll do it right in your face

    and am i bitter?
    hell yeah, im bitter!
    bitter til the bittersweet end
    ive been under attack
    you just cant see it
    but wake up, believe it
(and go ahead and say goodbye, cause i aint comin back!)

    [chorus x2]

    [verse]

and if it came around again,
id just say i was sorry
    it really was my fault;
    dont deny yourself the truth
and maybe really, it wasnt, but fuck it-
    any other day but today,
    id rather just not lose
but theres two types of songs, honey-
    love songs, and pirate songs
so walk the fuckin' plank, baby-
    this one's for you.

    [chorus x2]

"There's only two types of songs, my friend. Love songs, and pirate songs."
    -Paul Nesper

It seems odd, and too conversational to be a song- but trust me, listen to "Only" and you'll get a decent feel for how the verses work. It's a cool tune that needs a drum machine, really.

  12. Oh could you post them back up and/or send them to me.
    They'd be nice to see
