1. bought a 120 page notebook from work tonite, gona fill it with me ideas and hopefully get sum songs outa it
  2. This is about Northern Ireland.

    What are you?
    Says the Metaphysical Mugger
    Because we bleed for colours.
    Live our lives for others.
    Every single day.

God, if you're there i say.
Why do we feel so astray, when they're supposed to be bleedin' over you.

Balaclava's and bowler hats, Redhands and Brickbats
    Oh Why? What cost? Why?

Look i say, have you seen what you have left today.
A generation with only hate to feed.
The best of us in Dire need, of a boat, plane, or quick way to die.
How are we supposed to cope? In a land that makes us feel like we're gettin' choked.
    Under the freezing rain.

Am I really meant to believe,
    your sermons on the mount
    when you can't even count,
    or remember what you've done.

Walk down the street, feel the ghosts beneath your feet
and the glances at your back.
Now, all we have is make believe, it's what the best of us can concieve
when all we can still taste is ash.

You still point your finger and your ghost it lingers to see the chaos that it's caused.

Balaclava's and bowler hats, Redhands and Brickbats
    Oh Why? What cost? Why?

Have you seen what you've created?
From all that you have hated?
A land that doesn't know how to get better, has the soul of a fallout shelter.
Now we're funded for our water, but not for our bleeding hearts.

    Oh Why? What cost? Why?

See the child in the street, she's like a ghost of Derry.
there was a couple in that city, who gave the finger to self-pity
    and crossed your bullshit lines
said "in the midst of this disorder lets not live as cannon fodder let's live as best we can."
    Live better than we can.
    Live better than we can.

    We'll find a way out...my love.

    I caught that.

I really like the "Balaclavas...." lines, they paint a vivid picture. "gave the finger to self-pity" is great as well.
  4. Wrote this tonight, first serious lyric in awhile. This began as more of a poem, and turned somewhat into a song- still more free-form poetry though. I'd have to decide what to do with this musically. It means something, that's for sure.

    post reunion farewell

i'd like to not be here
    when you return
to imitate your style of spring-loaded emotion
you've brought me around full circle
    yet again
    a deconstructed, dismantled, loaded gun

but the safety is on, and you've laid me on my side
i'm not sure how to handle you
you broke through once, and twice bitten i'm found
    playing the fool, breaking rules

    this cannot begin again
this heartbreak was far too real
    an affair against familiarity
shattered and crushed by your wheels

round again, i find you closer
to brush up where you weren't before
    don't think i didn't catch your eye,
    tearing itself off me
when i came sliding through these doors

you admit that i scared you away
    at first
    a broken high-school memory
    chasing you away from me
    and eventually into my arms

    this cannot begin again
this heartbreak was far too real
    an affair against familiarity
shattered, and crushed by your wheels

it must end with something more
    this night
something par with that we've broken
i cannot part with both you and this town
without our lips exchanging our goodbyes

a warm embrace leaves me cold
as you peel away, i hide
    eyes darting everywhere but yours
this evening's waves aren't mine to ride

    this cannot begin again
this heartbreak was far too real
    an affair against familiarity
    revived by what you steal

you turn and walk back into life
and leave me with my car
come pick me up at the corner
    of dreamer's regret
if you hear i've made it that far

"Warm embrace that leaves me cold" "Come pick me up at the corner of dreamer's regret"

This one sounds like it can relate to any high school graduate / student... I can picture you singing this while the caps are being thrown in the air.
  7. I'm glad you can find something to relate it to, Nick- this is one of those songs for me (perhaps the first one that I've written) that has absolutely, totally, specific meaning to me, about literal specific instances that happened recently between me and only one other person, but were inspired around the actions of several people. So it has a very, very personal connection to ME- but at the same time, I know I wrote it in a way that leaves room for much interpretation- which is what I wanted.

    This makes me happy

That's the beauty of songs, they may have a difference significance in everyone's lives... as I've said before, part of it is the listener's job. I'm really glad that you have pleased yourself with the song, because as with just about everything else, that is how pleasing others must be started.
  9. I wrote my first dumb love song this morning. It started with a line and melody that I had in my head when I woke up, and it kind of wrote itself. It's extremely simple, no fancy words or deep metaphors. It is also the first song that I actually started and completed in my "song" notebook. I think that if I actually decide to work on it, it could easily be either a pop (Beatles-esque Oasisey pop) tune or an acoustic ballad. I think that if I go the "pop" way, it would sound a bit like Rod Stewart's "Forever Young."

    Rush

There isn’t a rush, like your rush
The one that you are giving to me
There isn’t a rush, like your rush
The one that’s taking over me

The words I speak, the people I meet
They’re nothing when I’m next to you
The world is round, the world is flat
    It’s everything because of you
The dreams I have, the nightmares too
They’re nothing when you’re dreaming too

There isn’t a rush, like your rush
The one that you are giving to me
There isn’t a rush, like your rush
The one that’s taking over me

A fire is burning, the sky is falling
It’s alright when I’m near you
    Little boys and dying men
Rejoice in a joy like you
Hearts are singing, souls are wailing
    But I only hear you

I’m not hiding, I’m not fighting
    Because I’m next to you
    Criminals fighting, nobles thriving
It ends when lines meet you
Clouds are parting, new passages starting
    It all begins for you

There isn’t a rush, like your rush
The one that you are giving to me
There isn’t a rush, like your rush
The one that’s taking over me
There isn’t a rush, like your rush
The one that you are giving to me
  10. Sail Away (Farewell Times)

On the road of lost memories
    Standing in a new world
I woke up in a nightmare
To find out I lost my home
    The walls came tumbling down
    And I lost my ground
When they knocked on your door
    No one asked me, no

I am talking and you are not listening
I am crying and you are not seeing
And all I can say it´s enough, it´s enough

Sail away and let the rain pour down on me
Sail away and let me out in the streets
Sail away and let the wind guide me through
Guide me through the night into daylight, oh

I let your star guide me
Lead me the way I should go
    Don´t let me lose myself
    And don´t leave me alone
See birds rip the night sky
I am trapped and I wanna rewind
Just leave me be and talk to me
Help me find the light I can´t see

I have tied myself to the ground
The sea spread out and I am going down
But I will let it go, I will le it go

Sail away and let the rain pour down on me
Sail away and let me out in the streets
Sail away and let the wind guide me through
Guide me through the night into daylight, oh

I know that it is not good bye
I know that it is not good bye
I know that it is not good bye
I know that it is not good bye
  11. was watching some music channel today and i forget who it was (sum singer), but he said that he wrote like 10 songs just from the break up of one relationship..... anyway a little while later i thought of this.

What a great song, Victor!! Pretty sad, but some great lines there, and that "Everything's not lost" message at the end... Well done, mate
