1. Hi Im new to this forum and who appreciate it if someone could answer this question for me.

Iv been looking at going to the Sydney opening concert on the 13th of December, because I live in Melbourne I will need to fly into Sydney before the concert but I dont wont to stay the night in Sydney. So I was wondering the average time duration of their concerts so i could estimate a time I could fly back to Melbourne?

Also the average starting time of their concerts would help alot.

    Cheers
  2. Firstly welcome to the forum - the best U2 site on the net in my humble opinion

Concerts tend to last on average 2h 15m.

Start times vary from venue to venue according to local restrictions/curfews etc. You can pretty much bank on it starting at around 9pm and finishing at 11ish.

I would not try and get a flight back on the same night - remember it takes ages to leave the stadia etc so difficult to plan.

    Enjoy!
  3. Thanks mate thats helps alot

    Cheers
  4. Flying back on the show's night is an option only plausible if you have a flight 3+ hours after the show's finished. First, you have to get out of the stadium (30 minutes, average), get to the airport (obviously depends, but in the case of Sydney it's over 30 kms away, so give it another 30-45 minutes...) and be there with the mandatory 1-1'5 hours (for local flights at least, international ones have longer waiting times) in advance... It's not easy.

Suppossing (all approximate times, of course) a show start at 8:30 PM, the show would end at 10:45 PM, you'd be out of the stadium and ready to go at 11:15 PM, you would get to the airport at 00:00 and your first available flight would be around 01 AM at least... You would get at home past 3 AM for sure!! But anyway, don't worry, lots of people do it, so it's not that bad

By the way, welcome to the forum, why don't you present yourself here?
  5. Don't forget that Sydney airport also has a curfew at night. I'm not sure what time planes are allowed to leave at night but I know that there are no departures or landings before 6am.
  6. I am pretty sure it is 11pm (take this advice from a local airline employee)
  7. Lots of people sleep in the airport. That's likely your best bet. Just don't go to work the next day...

  8. After a concert in Dublin, I hit the pubs until they closed, went back to my hostel and grabbed my things, got to the airport around 3am, slept from 4-5am, and checked in to my 7am flight back to the US after that.

All that to say, I think catching a flight the night of the gig is a no-go. Get a hotel/hostel, or sleep at the airport and fly home early the next morning
  9. If only the show doesn't last as long as Croke Park III in 2005, which lasted 2 hours 45 min I recall
  10. oooh this is spam.
