For me it was never quite the album that could have been.
Considering the wealth of material that was there in the years after "Zooropa" there simply wasn't enough good songs on the album they kind of threw some of their best songs out on other projects than "Pop", and the production wasn't quite up to par. It was an interesting album at first but comparing the production with later years remixes the album didn't have U2's usual high standard.
Since then U2 has made remixes of some of the songs on Best of 1990-2000 that sound more U2ish.
As an afterthought I made an CD-r of Pop - revisited. A lot of the songs are cut and a couple from the Passengers album is on there. It's just good fun, but i do believe this compilation is a lot stronger than Pop.
