  2. Exactly my thoughts! I for one hate the new mixes on 1990-2000 because I feel they loose all their feeling. It just sounds like they re-did them to fit into context with the traditional sound they were going for in the ATYCLB era.
  3. POP does not need fixing. Although i must admit the single mix of please is a lot better. Same for Angels..

    Im on the fence with please.....some elments off the album version are lacking on the single mix and vice versa...Im not crazy about the strings on the single and I think the album version is a little darker....Def agree with IGWSHA, single version is way better..

  6. I've always liked the single version of Please as well. It's got a more classic sound and the strings in it are awesome.

    The If God Will Send His Angels single version...not so much.
  7. Pop is unfinished, it needs a bit more polish, many of the songs have great concepts but are just a bit lacking in execution. However they should only change what needs changing, and not revise stuff just for the sake of it (like the terrible and pointless Best of 1990-2000 remix of Staring at the Sun).


  8. Exactly, I'm sick of it being constantly criticised, it is what it is. Personally I love it, I think the songs are great. There is a lot of talk about how the songs seem unfinished and how the production isn't up to scratch, it seems to be the same argument but no-one is suggesting exactly where it is flawed. The bandwagon rolls on. I think HTDAAB is a weaker album. . . . . .

  11. The only 'remaking' that I could see happening is a 20th Anniversary Editioin.

    They could have the original as the first disc. They have said they ran out of time and didn't have enough time to mix. So the second disc could permit them that time.

    If they use some of their "off-time" after the tour to take the masters and reimagine the Pop album, it could be interesting.

    But I don't know how much the second disc woulld change. They remixed "Gone" and Discotheque" for the 'Best of 1990-2000' and there wasn't huge differences, other than Edge's backing vocal added to the former and the "Boom Cha's" missing from the later.

    It seems that when there has been backlash on an album/project they have a tendency to recoil.

    Rattle And Hum got slammed by some critics. They have proceeded to play little of the material in the last 20 years - since the Love Town tour. God Part II, Hawkmoon 269, All Along the Watchtower and Love Rescue Me haven't been played since the closing show of Love Town. When Love Comes To Town hasn't been played since the Zoo TV tour.

    "Pop" has met a similar fate. In the 12 years since Popmart closed, There has been no: Mofo, Do You Feel Loved, If God Will Send His Angels and If You Wear That Velvet Dress have been disappeared.

    Only "Gone" has really had much play post Popmart. "Discotheque" was played briefly on Elevation tour and twice on Vertigo tour. But other than that... Although some of the single mixes of the singles that were released at the time - did seem better to my ears than the album versions. There is a single version of Discothuque that I like better than the album version. The single version of Please - I like much better than the album version. Aspects of the single version of "If God Will Send..." - far better. "Staring At the Sun" and "Mofo remixes? Not so much.

    Not to go too far off the topic...

    More presently, the Songs of Ascent project looks like it will never come out; certainly not in the form that it was intended. It seems that the band have taken the criticism of NLOTH to heart. I can understand their concerns. But I love that they don't try to remake the same album over and over. I like that they made Songs of Ascent to be a mellow atmospheric record. But I am saddened that because NLOTH has been criticized for the mellower / atmospheric moments, they are stepping back and hoping to come up with an album of 'ROCK' songs instead.

    Rock songs good. Not a bad thing. But maybe allow the fans to buy Songs of Ascent for a fair price, giving the money to One.org or Music Rising etc - via U2.com? The songs could then get out there to the fans and not be as subjected to the critics as a normal release.
  12. Popheart live has the best version of Please I think, the merge into streets is amazing, especially the synth on the intro. It would be nice to hear some of the older tunes revived though.. surely a review tour before the next major album!
