  1. I imagine MOTD was the suggestion of the guy they dueted it with. Like when Wild Horses and A Sort Of Homecoming were played with fans. Not U2's idea, and when the duets were over, they never came back.

    But hey, at least it got rid of the pointless MLK for one night.

    Really grea great thing they done!

    But I think they made little changes in the song. Let's wait for something amazing...

  3. I actually don't hate Mercy as much as I used to, but I have a feeling that's partly because they've written so many worse lyrics since then. There was never much wrong with the music; some tweaking and rewriting might see a decent song out of it. It is nice to see them changing things up a bit this leg.

  5. I just watched video of MOTD on Youtube. Starts really well but then the Turkish guy sort of drags the thing down and the song falls apart at the end. No applause for the song.
  6. Yeah it seems as if they weren't really too well received in Turkey...crowd went nuts for newer songs and not as much for older ones or obscurities...and certainly not a full house by any means. Good thing they didn't play any new songs like EBW or Glastonbury.
  7. Did they respond poorly to Pride? I hope so. Maybe the band will realize that the song needs to stay dead. We were so close to it dying an ignoble death but now it's back. :/

    I'd watch it myself to find out but I can't bear to expose myself to any Pride.

    I wish my audience had gone nuts for new songs. In Toronto, no one cared about No Line On The Horizon, or Unknown Caller, or Moment of Surrender. They loved One and With Or Without You though.

  9. We're notoriously terrible for that- I don't understand it. I was in the middle deck for my U2 show in Chicago last year, and even though everyone stood still around me, I was still jumping like a maniac. Nothing could have stopped me from going crazy like that. Maybe everyone's just nervous around each other when you're not in front of the energy of the band.

    Then again, even our GA crowds are usually fairly still unless it's a huge energy moment.
  10. I agree with the fact that North American audiences suck ass, it's true. I've gotten shouted at on more than one occasion because people "couldn't see", in other words they'd rather pay to sit on their ass at a concert than get up and move to the music. If you want to do that, sit at home in your favourite chair and listen to the album, live music is for moving, not for sitting still.

    This is funny though, because it seems like U2 tends to favour their North American audiences more. North American DVD's, seems like they spend a lot of time in North America, and now they're promising a "whole new show" when the tour comes back next year. Am I complaining? HELL NO, I just find it a bit funny.

    But I do have to say this. If I was a live playing band with a huge catalogue like U2, and a crowd didn't respond to No Line On THe Horizon, but they went nuts for Pride, I'd continue to play Pride. Why the hell would I want to play a song no one cares to hear? Better to give the majority of the audience what they want. They're not only playing to cater to the 20% of hardcore fans there are at each concert. They play a few new songs, a few older ones, then they play songs like Pride and One. You really can't blame them. If you want to see gems that the band doesn't play, go see a tribute show. U2 play to please the most they can, not only the hardcore fans.
  11. Fair points. I guess my Toronto show was weird, when you think about it. New stuff like NLOTH Unknown Caller plus rarities like The Unforgettable Fire, Stay AND Your Blue Room all in one concert. It was almost too good to believe.

    The problem I'm having is that the nonrarities they are playing are somewhat mediocre. IALW, I'm looking at you.

    Further, since no casual fan knows what Miss Sarajevo, Ultra Violet, or IALW is, they really should rotate the rarities a bit more. Like swapping out MLK for MOTD from time to time.

    I was also at that show Best night of my life, and yeah it was too good to believe. And I do agree with what you said about the nonrarities being a bit lame, and that they should rotate the rarities. But, they just want to give everyone the same show, fair and square. They play Bad at one concert, they play Mothers at the next, and people will argue for either one. U2 is "playing it safe" doing that, and again, I can't blame them. If I had been at the 2nd Toronto show last year, I would have been disappionted hearing about the setlist the night before, and I can only say I wish those people got the same show. My comprimise, play nonrarities that please both casual fans and hardcore fans. For instance, instead of IALW, All I Want Is You. Maybe not in the same place in the set, but somewhere. That's not the best choice, but it's the only one I can think of right now. There's plenty of songs that could fit there, and that are better songs than IALW. Tryin' To Throw Your Arms (maybe that's a bit of a stretch for the casual fans). How bout since they've taken out UF, put that back in and take out IALW. I don't know why they're playing that song, to me it doesn't fit in the setlist at all.
