    I think you also have to realize that at the time of Achtung Baby/Zooropa U2 had less albums than they do now. There is just more material to have to choose from; though I miss No Line too.
  2. My take on this: NLOTH hasn't been selling well and the 360° Tour has been going on for a year already. Bono's back surgery and the postponement of the North American leg of the tour means this tour will extend for another year. So, to keep people even interested to buy tickets to see U2 in concert, they couldn't have stuck with the same set (which was formed mainly of songs from an album that hasn't been selling well) for the whole two years. There are tickets still available for the next show which happens tomorrow (and there are ticktets still available for ALL the shows happening in 2011). I wonder how many fans from this site saw U2 in 2009 and how many of the same fans didn't even consider buying a ticket for a 2010 show before they knew the set actually changed? How about you, Gerard, as the OP? I recall you weren't tempted to buy a ticket for this year?
  3. Good evolution, I like it. The songs need some work, Mercy has some strange lyrics but in all, I wouldn't have guessed they would play The Unforgettable Fire, Ultraviolet, Mercy, Your Blue Room, Hold Me, Mothers of the Disappeared and 3 unreleased songs this tour.

    Love it.

  7. I do love this leg, really. Bono is really on fire every night. His voice is amazing, and he's playing like he has not done since Popmart. His new suit, new glasses, new haircut... After being nice enough during Elevation and (above all) Vertigo, he is definitely back.

    Moreover, the band seems to do really good as a whole : Adam is doing his best job. Just a bit worried about Edge, who fucks up a bit sometimes, and more than he used to. That may be because he is taking chances these days, I don't know, but that's the only thing I find disappointing this leg.

    As for setilsts, I think there are more change than we could expect. Yes, Elevation and Boots are still here, but they have been playing 5 more new songs, bring back songs that were not played for years (Batman, or Mothers even if it was played a bit on Vertigo for South American's special appearances). Maybe they're not playing Enough of NLOTH, but with at least 2 new songs for every show, it makes at least 7 recent songs per show, which is decent.

    Definitely, this leg has made a cushy but nice tour become an energic, surprising and powerful show. I think that's really their best tour since Popmart.

    Popmart had a pretty stable setlist... but yes, I'm very happy with 360 so far. I think the last leg of the Vertigo tour was great, and so was the European leg of the Elevation tour (as well as some gigs of the last leg, and some gigs of the end of the first).
  9. I was just thinking the other day that I was going to post about how exciting a time this is to be a U2 fan,something I haven't genuinely felt for a sustained period since mid-90's. Don't get me wrong, I've been as excited as the next when album's etc have been launched, but it's all died down quite quickly. This time around I've been really keen to see what's going to happen since Horsens (as Yeah said - payed it a bit safe there).

    Someone posted a list of all the 'unexpected' songs on this tour. I could not have predicted a single one of those before it got started. I know a lot of us would love to see some Pop material, but wow.

    As to why? No idea. Having fun, trying out new ways of testing material before it's released? Not sure. I know they recognise that the music industry is changing so I'm sure that influences their thoughts. I think Willie has quite a powerful seat too. They seem to listen to him and I'm damn sure he checks the fansites.

    It's all pretty damn cool, whatever you make of each individual song etc. And I have to agree, this 3rd leg Bono is a 20 year older Fly. For sure.
  10. The most amazing thing is seeing a song such as Mercy - as described by U2.com as 'mythical' and being played live. A leaked song live.

    They seem to be trying new things and obviously trying to avoid the apparent disaster that was NLOTH - by showing us what they've got going until 360 for 2010 is over at least. It's the first time as a U2 fan - well, maybe doing some HTDAAB songs before the album was released which I first really got into the online stuff - but this, songs that may or may not make the cut.
  11. It's better now than it previously was, that's for sure. A few things they could always improve, but I guess I am always going to be the minority when it comes to that.

    Overall, I hope they keep up the experimental attitude, as this is what I've always loved about U2.
